Hi PH,

Over the last few months I seem to be having an odd issue. I wear daily disposable contact lenses. Whenever I wear contacts I appear to get an eye infection on my right eye, similar to conjunctivitis.

I'm not sure what is going on, as I've been wearing contacts for over 10 years. I always wash and dry my hands properly. It's driving me mad. I have booked to see the GP but in the meantime has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Thanks!

Yes I have. I didn't exactly get got the bottom of it except I started wearing lenses less and glasses a bit more.

I would heavily reduce your time wearing them before you end up with an eye ulcer.

Avoid wearing lenses in the shower and get some eye drops.

You need to go back to glasses if you can as you're constantly irritating the sore. My sister had an ulcer on her eye due to contacts so as prescribed drops and had to wait for it to go. It's possible you may have a scratch on the eye and need some yellow drops to check.
You could have popped to the opticians as well if it's your eye? They're pretty clued up and it's their area of speciality.

I'd be going to the optician ahead of your GP. They have more knowledge and equipment.

Thank you all for the replies. Good to know it’s not just me!

I’m going to totally avoid contacts until I know what’s happening. Great idea on the opticians - I will book in for early next week and report back.

Sounds like kerititis. Lens wearers are especially vulnerable to this. Different types , but very important it is treated and it doesn’t go away by itself. You need to go to the local eye drop in clinic at a hospital and get checked out.
Definitely do not wear lenses at all until you get the all clear from the eye doctor - they will likely prescribe anti biotic eye drops plus a steroid drop.
