Just had a CT scan and no gall stones found. Waiting to speak to consultant on next steps. Wondered if anyone experienced similar symptoms?

For last couple years ive occasionally been having really bad stomach pains for 3ish hrs usually at night. I cant sleep, im not sick. The pain starts 4-6 hrs post eating, gets worse over an hr, lingers for an hr then goes away over an hr. Im knackered and bloated next day. It was infrequent so i put it down to either too much food, rich food, booze or a combination of three. However in Jan, i had it 3 times over 3 weekends so GP prescribed some anti-acid tablets which made no difference so then had a referral for a scan for gall stones.

Im 51, pretty healthy, no known medical issues. Ive stopped eating red meat or fatty food, late night binges but occasionally after a few drinks it ahem slips my mind....... Friend said they had similar with CT and camera - dr said nothing found and it was age related and was told to "watch diet". Any thoughts?

No idea to be honest and I'm no doc.

However, since Covid and working from home my eating habits changed although nothing that would on first thoughts would make me ill, it was only when I went on holiday in the UK (Covid again), I was eating sandwiches every day that I suddenly became really bloated, after a few days I had some abdominal pain and realised I hadn't been to the loo.

Everything eventually back to normal(ish), but again some pain towards the end of the week, constipated etc.

The common thing (that had changed) was eating bread daily, I cut this down and things have definitely improved, less bloating, less pain, bathroom duties much better. I did see a consultant (remotely), who couldn't confirm anything but did suggest I may have some mild gluten intolerance, which I cannot imagine I've had all my life (52) so maybe age has changed me.

Just a thought....

Could be a hiatal hernia. Easily checked for with a camera down the throat.

Definitely worth checking for that. My nana had that.

Also worth getting a food allergy test you can do this privately. Your diet may not have changed by the ingredients probably have.

thanks, never get any heartburn, even when im suffering this pain

Re food - its red meat, burgers, fatty pork or fried food that seems to cause it. Fish, chicken (maybe wings) doesnt cause it. Booze on its own doesnt either

Could be poor gut health, Drs are st slow or just don't bother with getting clued up with many things gut related, try a few weeks of digestive enzymes and pro biotics

Was getting into Oktoberfest one year. Decided to tackle this rather large deep fried pork knuckle. I destroyed it and it in turn destroyed my stomach for a good few weeks. I would say laying off the booze and super oily foods will most definitely help.

Could be gastritis. Worth asking your GP about getting an OGD.

Yes, I get this every so often (has been playing up for me over the last few days actually). Mine I'm sure is IBS related to surgery years ago that involved removing a small section of intestine amongst other things - can't really determine a trigger as the cause seems to vary too greatly. Persist getting to the bottom of it as it could be a few things that people above have mentioned.
Symptom wise, I find a combination of buscopan and peppermint oil capsules help and occasionally get prescribed colocfac.
