Hernia Op now Leg Paralyzed
Discussion
You give the perfect description of a femoral nerve block - the local anaesthetic which was injected to keep you comfortable post-op has found its way to the big nerve that supplies that area of your leg. I see it once every couple of years or so. Gets better as the local anaesthetic wears off, but that can take 6, 12 or even 24 hours to happen. There is a very small chance of damage to the nerve itself, but it is too early to worry about that at the moment

Thanks for the info. I feel more confident now. It’s been about 7 hours since the op so still plenty of time to recover. I just wish I could wee. (Consultant Anaesthetist)
I had rainbows of various purples blues and blacks around my nads and chopper for a few weeks post hernia Op. Then the same again eight weeks later when they did the other side as only after the first op did they realise I actually had a double hernia!
Scary looking sometimes, other times quite artistic.

I was informed about the fact my plumbs would blow up like the character in Viz either. Not wanting to terrify myself, I avoided Google as well. Phoned 111. Total waste of time, given the Sterling advice of going to A and E. at 1140pm of a Friday night.
Instead, I presented the following morning. A and E is not a pleasant place. I spent time wondering when society accepted the fact that staff needed to be protected, from those they are there to help, by floor to ceiling screens.
Anyway, after a 6hr wait I was told this is entirely normal and to go home and drink some whiskey.
So I did.
Don’t worry, you’ll be back to normal in a few days.
