Sore hand, what could this be?
Discussion
No not that okay
Thought I might try Dr. Pistonheads, well you lot diagnosed my gout more effectively than the NHS managed first shot! And now I can't get a qwak at all.
I get a kind of soreness/ache/tingling on the bottom of my right hand and into the wrist, by bottom I mean opposite side to the thumb. Notice it most prevalent when using a tablet as the arm/wrist is held under a constant tension I guess. Never agony but can build into deep discomfort. Relaxing the hand immediately alleviates.
Right hand is dominant and left side doesn't have the issue. Manual job so it gets worked lots, power tools vibration etc, but I try to take care of myself.
I have occasional hits of gout in the toe/foot and once calcific tenderitus in the shoulder which are probably not related but have muscular similarities it could be an overall condition possibly maybe worth mentioning.
Any ideas? TIA!

Doesn't sound like either TBF. Can sometimes get a little tingling extending into the little finger though.
it's not really a pain so much as an increasingly uncomfortable fatigue like feeling, upon which resting the hand subsides immediately. Returning to the action it'll come back quickly.
I'm using a thick wrist support now to type this that helps a lot.
I'm struggling to think of anything else that replicates it, I'm fine driving, using a range of hand and power tools, although thinking about it I may get some discomfort doing the same particular motion repeatedly, particularly something requiring finesse or precision, so again the hand & arm held in a constant state of tension without moving much.

Managed to get to an actual Dr. He isn't sure and has actioned blood tests, x-ray and physio.
Sensation has changed today, I've had discomfort, as in almost pain in the bottom of the palm area is where it meets the wrist, and also some tingling in the middle fingers and the bit of hand immediately adjacent.
Is physio the best idea before know exactly what it is, might it help resolve it regardless?

Yes.I had a very similar thing about 18 months ago. All the same symptoms plus a very weakened grip. I tried various support devices, rubs and the like, all to no avail.
It was a result of video editing of all things. I'd been working for a year on a very involved project that required a huge amount of mouse use. And the problem wasn't in my hand or wrist but in my neck and shoulder. This was determined by a physio. Took five sessions to sort and transfer to use of an ergonomic mouse and the problem hasn't returned.
Docs weren't much help.. physio got hung up on the right hand being weaker (grip strength )than the left, told me it was overworked being dominant and I must exercise it to fix. Which made no sense whatsoever. And in any event the issue was occasionally afflicting the left hand too...
But anyway... For completeness of Dr. Pistonheads files... It looks a lot like aspartame was either causing or aggressively aggravating whatever it is/was.

No, they do not diagnose. Some specific sports physios are very competent but a massage is all you'll get along with advice on exercises which may/not help. And any treatment administered in the wrong place could make the injury worse. For instance one cause of neuropathy in the hand/fingers could be a strained muscle (in the neck area, say) that has become inflamed and presses on a nerve. Go and see a specialist if it doesn't clear up.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
