So my wife slipped last weekend and bashed her back / ribs.
She was in excrutiating pain when it happened - mid back, left hand side.

Not wanting tollerate A&E for several hours on a saturday night, she decided to try and sleep it off with some pain meds.
By sunday she was ok, went for a forest walk. The following day she went shopping in London (no painkillers required)

On wednesday she twisted whilst on an office chair and has been in severe pain ever since.
Ibuprofen and tiger balm seem to take the edge off, and whilst deep breaths can be painful, she's not short of breath or anythinhg.

I've tried to get her to go to the local walk in centre but she's not keen, keeps cyting an Intercostal Muscle Strain (Dr Google diagnosis).

Thought i'd put it to you lot to see if it sounds like what she thinks it is, or what kind of position / mediaction might help her moreso.

Thanks in advance!

Not a Dr but I broke 4 ribs last year, pain like nothing else, was put on a short coarse of painkillers which took the edge off, Dr said to take a week off work, self employed so back the next day, I think there is a small danger of a lung infection in the case of rib damage due to constant shallow breathing, took about 2 weeks for the pain to go completely, oh and sneezing is a massive no no.

I've got nothing helpful to add other than if I were in her situation I'd probably book a private appointment with a local physio. I've found that searching previous posts asking for recommendations on the local facebook page shows who is well regarded.

I’ve broken a rib before and agree re the pain. I couldn’t move for a few days any sneezing or coughing was hell. Nothing the docs can do but give strong pain killers.

OP if it’s muscular then a private chiropractor will sort her out and give her exercises to strengthen whatever she’s done. Relatively cheap and not something you can wait for the NHS to see as it’s easier to sort straight after the damage. I once screwed up my shoulder falling down the stairs
