Sudden loss of low frequency in one ear?
Discussion
I've lost low frequency hearing in one ear since this morning, and I can hear a slight high pitched whining. I googled it. It says to contact your GP asap. It's Saturday night so I'm on hold with 111. Wait time could be an hour.
In the meantime... has anyone experienced something similar?

Has this just come on out the blue? Or have you had exposure to loud noises/music during the day?
Could just be a wax build up otherwise - breathe in, hold your nose and swallow, your ears might pop and the blockage may clear - a sip of water helps with this too.
I have tinnitus in my left ear for a few years now, but this was due to constant gigging and band practices at full pelt!

I had something similar in one ear
After a CT scan was diagnosed with Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Hearing came back after a couple of weeks
A while later had deafness in the other ear, but that was wax build up and water plugging the ear. An opticians used a vacuum to suck the wax out. GPs don't do syringing nowadays

I had SSHL many years ago, pre internet, so didn't Google it. If I had, I would've taken myself to A&E as it was dismissed as a cold by my GP. And I knew I didn't have a cold. So I left it and then it was too late.
Ended up with permanent loss in one ear and gained permanent tinnitus.
If there's no obvious cause for this, it could be SSHL but up to you what you want to do about it.

Are you feeling run down / tired / stressed
I get stressed / run down from time to time, my hearing going odd is a good indicator
My left ear goes a bit loopy and things sound robotic through it
No. There absolutely nothing that I can think of that has caused this. Everything is entirely normal. I get stressed / run down from time to time, my hearing going odd is a good indicator

I've just woken up and the ringing has got worse. I can't think of anything that has caused this, it's come straight out of the blue.
Does you ear actually feel blocked, too? Muffled and feels and sounds like you're underwater?
So if you're not aware, there's a tube that connects your ear to your throat called the eustachian tubes. They can get blocked and cause the issues mentioned.
I get it from time to time and the GP can give you a nasal spray to help. You can also breathe steam to help clear it.
Definitely don't panic about the ringing, I.e tinnitus though. If you've not damaged your hearing in any way, it should go when you ears are unblocked.
Hope this helps!
Thanks. My left ear had a bit of an ear ache, relatively minor. But the more worrying part was that I couldn't hear low frequencies. There was a ringing in the background and noises became more perceptible, to the point that opening a pack of crisps was too loud for my liking.
This morning there is no ear ache. I haven't verified, but I think the low frequency is now working. Yet the ringing persists, just worse.
I have managed to book an appointment with a GP this afternoon, so will see how that goes.

This is appearing more on more on the health forum imo. Got to be covid related surely?
My tinnitus started same time as my AZ jabs, and had it ever since.... I was able to ignore it for the last 35 years up until my Covid jabs - it’s now so loud it can’t be ignored.
It’s an absolute bd.
Lurgey i picked up at Christmas, resulted in coughing fits, the same that left me with a loss of hearing in both ears, and a ringing noise in one ear. From telephone contact with my Doctor's surgery, resulted in same day Doctor's appointment, with hospital's ears nose & throat (ENT) department appointment ten (10) days later (nothing wrong with my NHS).
At the ENT appointment, hearing test carried out, the same confirming some hearing loss, then camera placed up both nostrils, with the diagnosis that there was wax/liquid behind the ear drum.
I was prescribed Beconase nasal spray, twice daily spray in each nostril, and advised to treat my dry nostrils with Vaseline. The advice in using Vaseline in the nostrils has raised me with some concerns, since all the advice on google etc. warns against the use of Vaseline in the nostrils, since Vaseline will be consumed in the lungs, which is extremely harmful.

Update: Went to see the doctor at a&e and was prescribed a nasal spray. There may be a build up of wax/fluid which can cause ringing.
It's been 2 weeks now and it's only gotten worse. It started off as one ear but I think it's both now, I can't quite tell. If I open my mouth to it's full extent the ringing gets quite bad.
I have tried to get a referral to an ent but the best my doctor's surgery could do was book a phone conversation with a doctor in the coming week. We'll see how that goes.
It's quite worrying as I know there is no cure for tinnitus. My friend's wife has tinnitus after catching covid and she really doesn't cope well. It's driving him up the wall with her miserable mood and constant crying for almost a year.
30 odd years ago a friend's dad took his life with a drill because he couldn't handle the ringing.

Mine was getting bad, got an appointment thinking no wax in there, having been told that wasn’t the problem. It's been 2 weeks now and it's only gotten worse. It started off as one ear but I think it's both now, I can't quite tell. If I open my mouth to it's full extent the ringing gets quite bad.

Consultant said was some hard wax and couldn’t do anything until it wad removed.
Advised Bicarbonate Of Soda ear drops and to come back, two days later I squirted some warm water in with assuring and a lump of wax and debris came out, the relic was massive. No more crap hearing, less hissing, no crawling and popping.
I had been told my ears were clear !
It’s been so hard, some days very heard of hearing, weird feelings in ears, scans for cancers etc.
I just used the drops and then shot some water in with a syringe and out it came, things aren’t perfect but 90 percent there.
Not Saying this is the car but I was getting very down with it, then Suddenly, it’s a lot better.
Was told two years on the NHS, but have medical via work, but ear drops and a syringe aren’t dear and worth a try, can’t do any harm I guess ?
