I have a lump on the sole of my foot which a podiatrist and ultrasound have been unable to diagnose fully.

I am therefore having to have an exploratory procedure on it, this no doubt will involve an injection to numb it.

Has anyone had such an injection, I’m fine with injections normally however the idea of one in the sole of my foot has me a little worried

Am I just being a total wuss?

Having stepped on numerous bits of lego in the dark when my kids we little I can only conclude that an injection in the sole of your foot is going to hurt like a motherfker.

Take a stick to bear down on. - good luck

It hurts a little but nothing too bad iirc. Had this for burning out a verruca about 45 years ago so memory a little sketchy.

Junkies inject themselves between their toes, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Local anaesthetic always stings like fk for 5 seconds then you don't feel anything at all. You'll be fine unless you're really ticklish. Moving targets always makes life more difficult.

I succeeded in putting a deep cut in my sole where the little toe joins it. It was decided I needed stitches.

The nurse said she’d put a local in but it might sting a bit. Sting is not the word for it the air turned blue.

She then said she would stitch & I was to say if I felt any pain & she’d give me some more local. I could feel the stitches going in & that stung, but there was no way I was having another jab.

If it's going to be bad, I'd strongly suspect they slap on a topical anaesthetic first before craneing up the big boy.

That what I thought, guess it’s time to find a nice tasty stick.

Top tip - put your hand in your pocket and pinch your thigh, as they do the jab. Chances are you won't feel the jab. It also makes you look nonchalant. wink

ask for a tibial nerve block - this way the injection is placed just behind the inside ankle bone, one injection should take out sensation in the whole of the sole of the foot. Theres a bit of a scratch but really shouldnt be too bad.
An infiltration of local into the dense tissue in the sole of the foot on the other hand is pretty unpleasant

In hospital many years ago I had a couple of injections in my Jap's eye. It was extremely traumatic for me laugh, but TBH didn't actually hurt that much. Very small, thin needle I guess.
