Seems to be quite topical right now.

Some interesting side effects, the most noticeable being how easy it is to wake the angriest monster ever in my usually unflappable wife..

Any suggestions from husbands who have survived?

Maybe do a bit of reading about it, listen, be sympathetic and dont make it about you surviving ? its her going through it and its not pleasant by all accounts.

Lol, I've been playing this game for 5+ years, it's not great. I keep a diary of incidents on my phone just to keep me sane. Good luck.

It is 100% about surviving.

Her surviving
You surviving
The relationship surviving

My OH at one stage thought she had early onset dementia, it had such an impact on her general cognitive functioning. The local GP wasn't brilliant and tried to diagnose her with a depressive mood disorder......

General wellbeing ( both of yours) is largely linked to the HRT working effectively. Occasionally it can need tweaking and it takes a little while to stabilise.

YMMV of course, the above is only our experience and it can be more of less acute for each individual.

It does get easier though and settle down, or at least it did for us.

Cheers

Take up fishing or a hobby with your mates?
18 year old Bimbette?
Lay a new patio with the wife as the feature?

You'll still be wrong, no matter what.

My first wife was/is a firecracker. Link that with the menopause and a rocky marriage then years of torment was endured.
Abosolutly the worst years of my life.

All I can do is wish you luck.

Be prepared for brain fog, complete lack of thinking and volcanic like eruptions.

It can be difficult, just be patient and try to understand what your wife is going through.

This. I think getting a good Doctor helps who will support her and get her HRT right. My Wife also goes to a menopause support group, just a small group of local women giving the chance to meet and talk about things with other people going through the same thing. Good luck.

My ex refused HRT as she's a veggie and horse lover and it's got some horse extracted stuff in it apparently.

My wife's GP is a similar aged female going through similar things. She thinks that is really beneficial and aids with fine tuning the treatment.

I've suggested the Doctor and am told she does not have time to wait hours to get through. She works for the NHS, but actually in a small office with 3 ladies, all of whom are at the same stage of life. While I pity the unsuspecting person who goes in there when they are having a bad day, it is also like a small therapy group!

It's the brain fog which scared me. I thought my wife was getting dementia. She would start sentences and didn't finish them. At first I was jokingly saying "go on, nearly there" or "you'll have to give me a clue" but I realised she didn't know what she had started to say. It affected her confidence at work as well and she seemed to become withdrawn and less conversational. Bedroom antics dried up too (literally). HRT has been a big help.

Helpful advice: Mirena is likely to solve this , 2 of my friends went from angry forgetful crying monsters to totally normal after having one fitted. Or HRT.

Less helpful advice: Keep lots of chocolate around the house top up as necessary.

No, not unless the lady is seriously unwell. Menopause is a natural process that every woman on Earth goes through in one form or another. Taking medication to alleviate symptoms of a natural process is not a good idea.

Its amazing how it badly affects some women and some just breeze through it with no real problems.

I was lucky enough that my wife was in the latter, had no problems at all but did menopause quite early, early 40s and no hrt.
