HI, I'm due to get a front tooth removed at some point in the near future. It doesn't cause me any pain and the tooth itself is dead according to my dentist but it has to go.

He has said that my teeth either side of the tooth to be removed probably aren't the best for a bridge and has suggested an implant once things settle down post extraction.

I'm just looking for other people's experiences of these. I only know 2 people who've had them done and for both it seemed a long winded and very expensive process with lots of dentist visits and issues getting things just right and settled. One suffers with regular gum infections around the site of one of her implants with rumblings now that it's going to need replaced.

Given I'm a bit dentist phobic constant visits (and the cost) aren't really something I'm keen to sign up to if the results aren't great.

Views, opinions and experiences would be most welcome!

I’ve had two. One is over 15 years old. Zero trouble with either of them.
Yes it can take six months but can take much less (if no bone loss) and I treat them just like any other tooth.
Yes they are expensive but worth it IMO.
Highly satisfied and well worthwhile

I had one done last year - yes, it took a few months and three or four appointments but the result is great and I wouldn't hesitate to have more if required - it's got to be better than dentures biglaugh Mine cost £2200.00 (no bone-graft required).
