I'm 61.

I have noticed recently that I have struggled to remember the name of people or even things. As an example, I was talking to a colleague the other day about emptying the water from a fish tank. They asked if I would need to do it a bucket full at a time. I replied, no I will syphon it out using a ??????. I could picture the garden hose in my mind but for the life of me I couldn't remember the name for it at the time.

Go to the docs and get it checked.

My outlook on this kinda stuff is fairly simple.

If something is happening it's better to know now. Otherwise it'll be too late to try and manage it (via excersises or medication) or (worst case) prepare for things to come, which will ultimately make your life easier and more manageable in the future (and of any family members too).

If its just a brainfart. Then it's just a brainfart and nothing to worry about, everyone has them occasionally.

Everyone has a brain fart now and then. When I was 21 I forgot the name of a “thing you put the appliance plug in” (socket).

How much fluid (non-alcohol!) do you drink each day? Just that dehydration can cause brain farts and dementia-like symptoms in older people.

Go get registered, you are now in the age-group where you'll be seeing them more and more.

Honestly if I went to the Dr with everytime I forgot the name of something or soemone I may as well move into the surgery. OP unless you have anything else wrong with you then this is completely normal for aging and not something to be clogging the GPs up with.

People go to the surgery with every minor cough nowadays and then complain they can't get GP appointments. A woman on tv the other day took her baby to the hospital as it had a blackhead.

Can't believe the NHS is still pandering to that kind of racist nonsense.

Ignore this. Forgetting the name of things all the time can be the start of dementia. Go and register and then see a doctor.

Agreed. Forgetfulness at the age of 61 isn't usual.

Same here, especially since I retired. I do fewer things now and my brain is starting to weed out previously usefully information!
