Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had a surgery on Dupuytren's contracture of the hands?
What was the recovery period, how long has it been successful for, etc etc.

I'm currently in the NHS system, but putting off any operation at present as I feel I can continue with little impact on hand function and daily life. I'm a cabinet maker but still has little impact on work at present. Just starting to notice the odd thing which makes life a little awkward.
It's hereditary, my Mum has it, she has had both hands needled, twice but with limited success, usually starts to curl again after a year / 18 months.

Be good to hear real experiences.

I've had my right hand opened up twice, the first time although successfully straightened my 4th and 5th digit, it came back, however the second operation fixed it. Recovery time after the op was about 3 weeks for full mobility but I could use my fingers straight afterwards for 'light' duties.

BTW, DC is linked to our forefathers coming over from that there Scandinavia! Welcome to your Viking ancestry.....

A little more detail from what I can remember, which should give you some comfort that the treatment lasts a long time (but will not guarantee it will return), the operation is a day surgery, albeit you'll be fully sedated, and you'll have a massive pad bound up with bandaging on your hand when you come round! Picking yer nose is possible, but other personal functions are going to need assistance for a day or three...

can I ask how "curly" your fingers were, when you decided an op was best.
I'm a while away from needing an op, I probably have a 30 deg tilt on little finger and 20 deg on next finger.

Both fingers were 45 degree deflection (probably a little more on 5th digit) but it was down to my Consultant whether or not this was needing surgery. As you are working with your hands, I trust your Consultant will take that into consideration when deciding to operate or not?
