Despite being a relativity good boy prior to Christmas on 23rd I awoke with the pre-gout attack tingly toes feeling. Only usually get an attack every two/three years but can cripple me to make walking impossibly painful when the Urea crystals fill the joint cavities, you can hear them crunch almost!!!!!

OK no worries, GP has told me when I get this get in touch and get more Alliopinol (sp?).
'Phone line - shut off tells you to only contact via E-Consult for appointments and repeat prescriptions.
E-consult - switched off with message on landing page "Due to potential high levels of concern with cases we are only dealing with flu, Strep A, Covid and Pneumonia cases. Please use our e-mail admin address for requests".
E-mail at 9:40a.m. Friday - get a (looked automated) reply - I'll will have a reply in 24 hrs.
4pm Friday - I get another e-mail - our surgery is now closed to all non Strep-A, Covid, Cold, Flu and Pneumonia cases until 8th January.

What a bag of 'chocking the chicken sac produced fluid". My wife has a fit to work note running out 29th and her company pay weekly, no fit to work note, pay drops to Stat Min until you provide a fit to work note.

So looked a miserable Christmas with me not walking and her being ill and facing dropped wages as the bills come in. Thanks NHS. No really. Actually no, Sod you.

Thankfully recounting this to a friend he suggested a private GP (I had a slightly bad experience with private GPs 20 years ago when my work sent me private for an issue that was affecting my work and the NHS waits at the time were 12-18 months to a GP and for one round of medication......I was then left to pick up the tab of the consultant and subsequent medication as my NHS GP wouldn't let me "back in the system for this issue" after having gone private.

So I tried it, £25 later for a prescription sent to the out of hours local pharmacy and by 9pm I have my pills. Already 24 hrs later much of the "pre-tingle has gone" so hopefully with a bit of not indulging I'm not going to get a full attack....and whilst I was on for another £25 a fit for work note for the wife which arrived in minutes - though I must admit the current fit to work notes look extremely easy to photoshop. Must be more vigilant on my staffs at work as John keeps being off with a wandering Pancreas and then comes back two weeks later looking tanned. I presumed his pancreas was making him wander into suntan spray booths.

Merry Christmas all!

That still going? GP answerphone mentioned it in Covid times when they were shut but hasn't for ages assumed it had been shut post pandemic. Twice used in the past....once with an ill child out of hours...who sent us to A&E and then due to an infected wound in March 2020.....and they sent me to A&E.

Thought the press gives the impression we daren't be ill at the moment as the NHS is broken.

Hope you got the right pills, allopurinol won’t take the pain away!

Already have a stash of Naproxen for occasional use anyway. That usually masks anything for a few days at the start of an attack!

Been very good.

So far.

50% usual portions.

Three litre Cranberry juice drunk today (that always seemed to be another witches tales "insta-stop", some of which may have had Vodka in.

No Port.

Half an hour ago the munchies kicked in and I'm on the Turkey and Cranberry Sausage Rolls and Shiraz.

No cheese.

Port and cheese board are tempting me...

Do you use Allupurinol as a reliever? I have Gout, don’t take it yet as I can never get two weeks from an attack like it says!

It's used to lower acid levels long term It's not a pain killer.
Starting it sometimes triggers an attack so it's best to have the pain killers at hand when you do.

No point using allopurinol as a "when required" when an attack occurs. That's not what it is meant for. Either take that or febuxostat long term to prevent uric acid toxicity.

Otherwise if no prophylactic treatment then naproxen (+ PPI) and colchicine and you should symptoms improve within 24-48 hours

And yeah 111 GP or prescriber (nurse/pharmacist etc) should be able to arrange for a prescription to be done electronically and sent to nominated pharmacy to be picked up
