Does anybody else suffer with a kind of shimmering at the edge of your vision, like a heat haze in your vision?

I need my eyes testing but this is a weird sensation that wears off after a short time.

I think he means like when strip lighting goes on the blink and shimmers?

I would put it down to 'migraine aura' (migraine with no headache but weird effects) - op you getting enough sleep?
You may see zigzag lines or waves, these are called fortification illusions, or see spots, stars, halos, circles, lines, shapes or colors. Blurry vision or shimmering effects.

But best to see optician if they don't go away. Mine was lack of sleep. Solved!!

Aha! Thanks for putting a name to it.

I have had this on a handful of occasions.
Mine is a focused rotating zig-zagged circle that slowly gets larger and disappears.
Very rare and would make sense if it is related to sleep. I had not considered that sleep might have been the cause.

I experience this after they replaced the lighting in our office with fancy new LED panels. Started to notice other screens and light sources would give me the same "flickering".

Was told I was making it up when I raised it in the office and was surprised to hear no one else could see it! After speaking to a doc I learned it was related to my migraines, which is reassuring that I'm not going insane

Yes I have this, had it for about 4 years now. Its pretty much permanently there, outside half of my left eye.

I had various tests including an MRI, and they put it down to migraine aura, though they said they hadn't seen anyone else with it there permanently.

I suspect its an allergy to something, but not sure what.

Yup, sounds similar to the start of my migraines. I often get sparkly bits in my vision, sometimes in a sort of semi-circle. I also can get a "hole" in my vision where there is just nothing. First time I ever had a migraine (had no idea wtf was happening) I was playing football and I couldn’t see the ball. My mates were wondering why I was useless, or more than usual at least.

These days as soon as I suspect my vision is starting to go a bit odd I take dissolvable aspirin immediately. Speed of medication is everything with my migraines.

I wondered at first if this was a modern version of the old version of strip lighting causing problems when companies started to use bright white light tubes , the problem went away when they reverted to daylight bulbs .
I have suffered from migraine problems in the past so anything that can trigger them is of interest to me .
When younger mine were triggered by flickering bright sunlight. Things light sunlight through moving leaves over long periods would trigger it .
It was very common, so much so it is thought to be the reason behind the universal wearing of "aviator" style sunglasses by US helicopter pilots in Vietnam. Bright sunlight filtered through helicopters blades or the jungle canopy.
Medication and wearing sunglasses when I lived in Singapore certainly helped and the headaches virtually disappeared when I returned to the dull UK and since then they only happen in the summer when driving through the countryside without sunglasses.
