I have been suffering from unbearable itchy arms, legs and back over the last several months. One of the medication is take is a blood thinner (I think) called Lixiana which my new doctor prescribed instead of Riveroxiban. You probably know where I'm going with this, I never had itching on the old meds but since ce changing it has become an issue. Listed side effects for the new med include, yup, itching. Doc prescribed me anti allergen shampoo, anti histamines and a moisturiser which have helped slightly but not elevated it totally. I'd really like to stop taking the Lixiana to see if itching goes away but am aware it's prescribed for a reason but my Doc seems to doubt it is the tablets. Suggestions?

The itching is just that, a feeling of itchiness that is not helped by scratching, scratching relieves it momentarily but leaves a huge red rash anywhere I have scratched. Not conducive to relaxed evenings!!! Bizarrely I'm OK at work, also wondering if it's clothes that have 'absorbed' washing powder etc over time? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Washing powder / fabric conditioner and other anionic surfactants are well known for skin irritation, I had it for a while on my lower legs
while wearing long johns in winter and sussed it might be due to the above, I then tried a test... not giving my under garments to the wife
for her to slather with nasty man made stuff, and instead washed them seperately without it. The itching dissapeared in no time at all.

The itch was utterly dreadful, the more you rubbed it the higher the desire to rip into it with your fingernails it became, it could drive
you demented and nothing soothed it at all.

Try another anti-coagulant (if you haven't tried them all already)?

Trying to get doc to put me back on riveroxiban, had zero issues with that IF it's the tablets causing it

I guess if you switch back at least you'll know whether it's the Lixiana causing the itching or not.

Skin reactions are listed as a common side effect of edoxaban on BNF so could well be.

Still unbearable itching, mostly top of forearms and areas of back and legs. Back to doc I guess....

....and still no better. Latest blood tests show I am anaemic and have low iron levels which probably accounts for my immune system being fked and MAY be linked to the itching, further tests being done, see doc again Wed.

i have had this on my shins and belly - ripped the skin into terrible wounds sometimes!.

Nothing stops it, but nettle tea and eating lots of peas seemed to soothe it a smidgen - 2 cups a day. I'd have it for 4 weeks or so then it'd go away on its own for 6 months, only to return on a different body part (thankfully not my nuts yet -- that's be terrible!.

It's s random occurring I don't know what is causing it. But peas have iron in so maybe same as you?

Calomine lotion might help. Not the oily cream stuff, the traditional liquid in the bottle you have to shake up. I use it for prickly heat if I get too much sun and it resolves the itching. It's also cheap as chips.

Glad it's not just me with the itchies ! Mine seems to come and go, although I am on similar meds. Just had a routine blood test, so hopefully that might give us a clue.

I'm not on any medication for anything and have no other health issues but I went through a phase of intense itching fairly recently. It was worse after doing anything physical like cycling to work etc. I would scratch but the itch either didn't go away, or it moved elsewhere so I was constantly chasing it, causing red marks. Even if I wasn't itching, if I scratched myself I would get the same instant pleasure as if I had just scratched an itch.

Doctor put me on antihistamines and it went away. I occasionally get it back but not so bad, and goes away by itself, if not the antihistamines make it go away.

Sorry to hear this. Are you still OK at work? Might be worth exploring that link... .

To manage it I am on two different antihistamines, an antibacterial soap wash, similar moisturiser and need to take a bath with moisturiser in it every day, a shower doesn't give the same relief. I need to wear long sleeved to bed at night because if I scratch whilst sleeping thst will be me up for hour minimum lathering on cream and waiting on a tablet kicking in. It is worst on my forearms and upper arms and comes up in am angry red lumpy rash if I scratch and I just feel like I'm seconds away from scratching most of the day. When I'm busy I don't notice so much, can't wait to get back to work on Monday!

Have you seen a dermatologist? Those angry red lumps don't sound right. MIL had a very bad rash for a couple of years, I don't want to worry you but it turned out there was something very wrong with her blood.

I would think docs next step will be a referral, we will see what these latest tests show.
