I'm a little concerned with this pain I've got. I've had a flu for a week now and I began getting a headache on the top left side of my head.
I'm not sure how I'd not put the two together until this VERY minute but when phlegm builds up, the pain gets more intense, and only after getting the phlegm out does the pain ease (it's still there, more of a dull pain).

I did have brain surgery for epilepsy in 2017, so I'm probably worrying more than the average person with this pain..

Any advice?

No advice other than to speak to your GP. It’s probably not one many can help with by the sounds of it, given your history.

What for?

1. Don't go to the GP with a cold/flu if there's no serious symptoms.
2. If he's worried about his previous brain surgery how on Earth can the GP help? He should speak to the hospital/consultant involved in the surgery, for whom/which he will have direct access of some sort.

Could be sinus related.

"Signs and symptoms of sinus headaches may include:

Pain, pressure and fullness in the cheeks, brow or forehead
Worsening pain if you bend forward or lie down
Stuffy nose
Fatigue
Achy feeling in the upper teeth."

At a guess, sinus related.

A few things to try to help ease if it is sinus related:

Sleep on left hand side.

Check out the sinus pressure relief drainage videos on YouTube - I have found these to work very effectively.

You could have a sinus infection or something else but whilst you wait to see the doctor, no harm in trying the above.

Symptoms described are phlegm build up. Read the OP properly and work on your manners a tad.

Yes, typical sinus/phlegm build-up that comes with the territory. Doc would don't anything and you'll be wasting his/her time as they'll tell you the same thing and to stop at Tesco on your way home for a few boxes of Lemsip and tissues.

Unfortunately I've had sinus problems since I was a child, but there are a few things you can do.

I regularly have long and very hot showers. It's unpleasant at times but when you feel it (phlegm etc) moving, either hawk it up or blow it out your nose. You need to clear everything out. You can feel the pressure in your head change when it does shift though, almost like your ears popping if it's bad.

Go to a chemist before the GP. They'll probably give you eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil (or both) and advise how to use it.

Diet can impact it too. You might have to eliminate certain foods, or only have small portions. Foods with histamines (like tomatoes) and even bananas can make it worse.

Good thinking. You can also buy saline nose spray, I've heard positive things from someone that uses the spray.
