I have had a monstrous Dbetal phobia since I was about 14.

I cannot even talk about the subject without getting queasy.

Subsequently, I havent given my teeth the services they require.

I now, at the age of 57, have a smile that resembles a bombed out village.

I am not proud of this, trust me.

I am now working in a role that I love, for a business that is the best I have ever worked for.

I WANT to do somehting about my smile, BUT I dont want to make a dentist rich, and there is NO WAY I can go through implants etc.

I am considering a plate, if thats the correct term.

This would require at least 2, maybe 3 old roots being "removed" , I think.

With the fact that I am phobic to a such a high level, and also am unwilling to pay implant money...

Do I have ANY options available, do you think ?

For me, in an ideal world, Id get a general Anaesthetic and wake up sore with a great smile and a wounded wallet.........

But that wallet isnt overflowing.

You haven't been to the dentist for 43 years yikes

On the bright side, you should be able to fund whatever work you want done by getting the dentist to video what they do and then uploading it to your Youtube channel.

In all seriousness, find a dentist who specialises in phobic patients (the dental practice I use has one) and go for an initial discussion. You will be surprised at what they can rescue these days

Not quite what I said.....I have had pain related removals, and even they were so mentally damaging, I would only go if in tears tbh.

IV sedation, get all the extractions done. From a cost and aesthetics dentures can work but not for comfort and chewing.

Get a referral to NHS dental hospital they do exist I was there with our son recently and they had loads of people going in exactly like you. They will knock you out and you wake up with new nashers feeling like you’ve gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson.

You need a referral to community dentistry. You'll need a dentist to facilitate.

No dentist will meet your needs within a GDS contract.

You have my sympathy. I’m in a similar position.

Ask other people who they trust and be honest about your phobia. You’ll be surprised how many other people suffer with this to varying degrees and i bet you get some good recommendations.

I went to one a couple of weeks ago for the first time in decades. Was very understanding. I have a filling booked this tuesday (as a test to see if i can go through with it and how the dentist is, but he seemed really sympathetic).

If it helps i’ll report back.

OP, I'm so with you, the dentist is my only real phobia. I don't go unless I REALLY have to.

I put it down to going to a horrible dentist as a kid who I'm sure used to get off on inflicting as much pain and misery as possible. I can still see his face now!!

When I do, i have to take the wife and get extremely anxious, sweating etc. Grip hold of the chair and almost rip the arms off it.

Think I can count the number of times I've been in the last 30+ years on one hand.

It's even making me anxious typing the word dentist!!!!

Ok, can report back.

Dentistry has moved on a LOT since i last went.

I had a filling and a molar repaired and the whole thing was very calm. Dentist explained every step before doing it and was very relaxed and sympathetic. The worst bit was waiting to go in.

OP, as i said before i’d ask around as you will know people who are scared of dentists. Find someone who is recommended and go for a consultation. You dont have to follow it up, but there’s nothing to lose.

Very best of luck.

The only phobia I have of the dentist is the bill afterwards.

Just find yourself a good private one, not an NHS one for starters as they will be offering a service at bare minimum. I've had pretty much every dental procedure going and none have been bad.

Like others have said, sedation is on offer so just go along and you wont know what's going on to worry about it.
