Hi all.

In June I had a fall, nothing serious, just tripped over a kerb and landed on my knees. Grazed them pretty bad (think knees a 5 year old boy would be proud of!). Anyway cleaned them up, dressed them and got on with life. Grazes went through the usual stages, like weeping, scabbing and splitting when I bent my knees.

Fast forward to now, each knee still has a brown 'birthmark like' patch where the grazes were. It's not raised skin and there's no pain. Why are they discoloured like this? It's almost as if they got so far with the healing and then abruptly stopped.

Any ideas and should I be more concerned than I already am?

It's on a joint... They take longer on joints, and as you get older.

Try bio oil... It can reduce scaring. YMMV.

ETA or scarring even. Bloody auto correct.

Nope, embarrassingly I was at work, nice day, had the shorts on and then had to do the walk of shame through town with blood running down my legs to get back to the office to clean up irked

I was just being daft that this is in Holidays & Travel, and Health Matters might be a better place.

I managed to scalp the top of my head twice in one day by walking into the OH’s hatchback.

After about three months it still hadn’t healed. After two visits to the chemist when they told me they couldn’t sell me hydrocortisone cream for my head, I worked out this was secret speak for ‘you need hydrocortisone cream’.

Bought some cream for ‘my elbow’ and a week later I’d healed.

Head and knees are similar - bony with thin skin. Might be worth giving it a go.

Sounds like excess melanin when healing. "PIH" or you're experiencing reverse Michael Jackson sydrome.

Standard

You’ve obviously never played 7 a side football/hockey etc on the old style astroturf.

I went in Boots yesterday but couldn't find any bio oil and the assistant looked at me like I had just asked for unicorn tears! So headed to Holland & Barrett and while they don't sell it, they do have some vitamin e scar serum. So I got some to give a try.

Hydrocortisone is next on the list.

Thanks all

It's a corticosteroid that works to reduce inflammation. Are your knees inflamed, or is it a cosmetic treatment you're looking for?

Not inflamed or sore, just these weird brown marks where the impressive scabs were. I just want my knees to look like I've not been kneeling in something nasty smile

I think they'll probably fade. May take a while though!
