Morning all,

Last Friday I developed a toothache on one side towards the back of my mouth. Persisted all day with some slight swelling in the evening on the roof of my mouth on the left.

Toothache gone now but roof of my mouth is crazy swollen on one side, very inflamed and painful.

My tonsils are inflamed on the same side and bright red, so is my throat and the area behind my nose feels the same.

Done a bit of Googling and can’t find a picture looking similar to me, but the roof of my mouth looks very swollen indeed - worse than most of the pictures on google I could find laugh

Rang GP yesterday although didn’t actually speak to one, the receptionist reckoned sinus injection so I should have an antibiotic to collect today.

This morning things it’s awkward/uncomfortable to swallow but nowhere near impossible, I managed a bowl of porridge for breakfast.

Mrs thinks I should be going to A&E if I still can’t see a GP in case the swelling progresses to a point where it affects my breathing - should I? If it matters I am immunosuppressed so infections like this can be a nuisance to clear.

Thanks

elanfan

Amateur only, personal experience : an abcess or damage to the gum can cause bleeding that follows a small channel or dental sinus and builds up in the gum or roof of the mouth causing swelling (like a blister). Wait until it lets go - do you like the taste of blood? smile

I wouldn’t rely on the diagnosis of the receptionist!!

Get it looked at it person ASAP, is there an NHS walk in centre near you ?

Thanks chaps. Yes getting back on the blower at 9 hoping to see either a GP or dentist, don’t mind which.

Could be any of the above suggestions having had a google. Forgot to mention my tongue is numb and sore and intermittent dizziness when standing also.

Nasty! No walk in centres near me apart from an A&E which has requested 4 days out of the last week that you only attend if life threatening.

Just to update, GP was a non starter but the dentist was a goer.

Explained what was wrong and she took a look, her reaction said a lot laugh But she was able to puncture and partially drain it to relieve some of the pressure and has prescribed 2 antibiotics.

They reckon I have an infection that’s stemmed from quite a large filling I had done previously so that’s to be redone in a few weeks once the infection is dealt with. Cheers for the advice everyone!

Glad you got to see a dentist and get it treated, but disgraceful in a first world country when you're unable to get an appointment to see your GP.
