Morning all,

I'm early 40's, no previous health conditions and relatively fit\active.

Since returning from a cycling holiday 5 weeks ago (where I did pick up a food poisoning resulting in V&D ), I'm experiencing what I can only think is how arthritis feels. It started in one finger on my left hand which I initially put down to a fall I had. However, now it's in my left hand and spread to my right hand and left foot more recently. It's worse during the night and first thing in the morning then eases off once up and about. However, as I type now, I can feel my left hand is a little stiff.

My Google diagnosis would point to reactive arthritis.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/reactive-arthritis/#...

I've got a call with the doctor, but not until the end of next week. Any thoughts on what could be causing it? Anything I can take to help? Not to mask the feeling, but more to help long term?

Probably worth getting some bloods done with the gp.
Helps to rule things in and out.

A pal of mine had a nasty bout of reactive arthritis, they reckon coffee was the trigger , so now avoids coffee and no more problems

Could be a post viral thing though??

Thanks for that.

My other worry is lymes disease living up in NE of Scotland. No other symptoms like tiredness etc though.

Had the same thing about 6 months ago after having covid. Covid itself was really mild but afterwards I had really bad pain in the joints of one of my thumbs, along with really sore/stiff achilles tendons and knee pain which was worse in the morning- could hardly walk down the stairs at one point. I'm late 30s, do lots of cycling etc. so was all quite worrying.

It cleared up on its own after a couple of months although I still feel it in my ankles now and again. I did wonder if it was something like viral arthritis related to the covid.

Get checked for uric acid as it may be gout.

It does sound like Gout. Had similar symptoms, confirmed via blood test, now on treatment - picked up another of my parents conditions!

Thanks everyone.

Has a read about gout, NHS site says "severe pain". Definitely not that level of pain, more just uncomfortable. Joints also aren't swollen.

I am about 10 years ahead of you, Mine gets worse when it’s cold, and i find it’s much worse when I eat bread. So I wear gloves and try not to eat bread, some days I just bath my hands in volterol gel first thing in the morning and try not to use them.

I haven’t seen a doctor about it as he will say it’s my age…
