Firstly I know asking a random bunch of people on the internet is maybe not the best option but just wondered what people think.

Noticed yesterday I had been bitten on my arm, did not think much about it but the area around it is now really red and it has a small lump.

Should I be worried.

Blue bottle or horse fly bite.

Have you put any antiseptic on it?

Is it hot/sore or just inflamed? Has the inflammation spread or spreading?

Looks like a horsefly bite....had 4 last week myself.

Itchy and usually has a yellow crust form at some point.

You'll be fine.

I am NOT medically trained in any way. If you die from some horrific insect borne disease, I'm not liable, ok?

An antihistamine/hayfever tablet or two may also help in my experience

Ice, elevation and antihistamines. Topical stuff is useless. If hot, redness increases in size, feel unwell or concerned go to a local urgent treatment centre.

OP are you still alive?

If you are, I'm basically a doctor now then.

There are some evil biting things around this year.

My wife was bitten on her toe four weeks ago in the night, so no idea what. Within two days her entire foot & ankle was red & swollen. It is now subsiding but she had a really yucky wound for ages & many layers of skin peeled off. Antibiotics were prescribed after about a week. She says it still hurts.

So, take it seriously & get medical attention if it doesn’t disappear quickly.
