Safe level of ibuprofen?

A couple of months back I fell at work and hurt my knee, not badly.
I now keep getting pain in it, not bad say 5 out of 10 in the pain threshold.
I took 2x 200mg ibuprofen 3 times in a day and the pain has gone.
What would be a safe level to continue taking?
Would 4 a day be excessive I never normally take anything.

Based on the levels dosed out in Spain by a dentist thats half, i was on 2x400x4 times a day which I think is about the limit.

Horrible cramps after a few days though as I wasn't eating much and they really irritate your stomach.

Lucky you’re not in the USA , you would be addicted to fent by now living on skid row or Venice beach .

The maximum dose is safe for 1 - 2 weeks, after that it starts affecting your stomach. It should really be taken with food also.

You should consider using omeprazole as well if you're taking ibuprofen for any length of time.

Maximum dose is 600mg four times daily.
Usual dose 400mg three times daily.
