How should you go about finding someone like Dr Sandra Lee in the UK? What term whould you enter in a web search?

It's not for a vital issue that an NHS doctor would be bothered with but it's more than I can lop off myself.

This is the UK version of Sandra Lee (from the “Bad Skin Clinic” TV show):

Gives you some good terms to search with if you don’t want to try her

I had a large lipoma removed from my arse earlier this year under a general anasthetic.

It cost about £2000 to have done at Spire Healthcare including consultation.

It's worth getting a quote to have done at a local private hospital. I was told it would be around £500 if I didn't need to go into theatre.

I had one that developed from a hematoma just under my elbow after I smashed it off a goal post. Wasn't very big but it was got very annoying and when pushed and got a sharp pain in my armpit.

Waited about two years then got fed up and was quoted £2000 privately as they suspected there was blood supply attached. Got the nod from the NHS a week later and had it removed one afternoon. Watched the whole thing as I'm not squeamish and out of the slit came this white blob about the size of a chickpea followed by a massive blood vessell.

I had the same query as the OP a few months back as I needed a pilonidal cyst removed from my scalp and ended up using my local Sk:n clinic; had the whole thing done and over with within 2 weeks of submitting the booking request. Would recommend.

ETA cost was around £500 IIRC which was much better than some of the other places I had looked into, most of whom wanted north of £1k. Sk:n was a walk-in, walk-out type affair (for me at least); no need to go under for the removal.

Interesting. Do they charge by the lump or a session? The consultation seems to be "from £100" & then £495 for a cyst so would two cysts be getting on for £1100?

No idea I'm afraid; I only had the one removed; I have 2 or 3 more elsewhere but they don't bother me. The one on my scalp took a beating every time I went to the barbers!

ETA my consultation was £100 exactly; then the actual remove was £495; still a bargain compared to the alternatives I looked at. That thing was brewing away for 15-odd years so was glad to finally get rid.

Bad skin clinic on sky has a northern Irish female doctor in Harley street.
She removes lipomas, treats cysts etc with lasers and removal exactly like Pimple popper.
https://www.discoveryplus.com/gb/show/the-bad-skin...
I’ve had my lipomas done at Nuffield privately apart from one the size of a grapefruit when I was a toddler. (16 staples)
Last 2 were on my cheek and my chest. Cheek was Malteser size chest was long and more like pinky finger in length and width but grew in the way so I have a bullet hole scar in my chest.

You need to be careful with Harley Street. I had a small pea sized cyst below my ear (not something the NHS will treat).

I went to a clinic that advertised prices "from" a few hundred quid. The initial consultation was something like £200 which would be free if you then had the removal done.

The consultation took about 60 seconds. They then wheeled in the sales team who told me it would be about £900 to remove. As I was already there and a couple of hundred in already I agreed.

The cyst was out within about 20 minutes, total time in the surgery was about 30 minutes.

The income that practice will be generating is huge! The surgery was busy and even if nobody opted for the surgery they would be taking £200-400 per hour per doctor.

Indeed, I am rather surprised by the cost of these cosmetic procedures. I've found on e place which has an initial consultation fee of £100 but the cost of each treatment is building up to a ridiculous amount. I assume that as it's cosmetic they reckon they can charge outlandish prices.

Especially for something like a cyst that I had. The cut was less than 1cm and it was done on the examination table in her office.

It was quicker and less intrusive than having a filling done.

Most of this stuff could be done by a nurse - you don't need a medical degree to freeze off a skin tag. I've seen quotes for examinations that were more than I paid my cataract surgeon who had £100k of kit to pay for.

Not just Harley Street it's the same with private practices all over the UK. My spinal consultant does 1 day on the NHS and 4 days in the private hospital. 9 month wait to see him on the NHS this was pre Covid. Booked an appointment to see him private it cost 248 quid that got me five minutes and when I came to pay the desk at the end they told I'd overstayed a few minutes but would let me off, how generous of them.

Same as my daughter who had a spider nevus. We took her to a private clinic to have it treated and assumed they would do it there and then. No, we had a 2 minute consultation to tell me what I had already read on the internet and then got charged £250 for the consultation.

^^^ This

I accidentally watched (it came on after something else as I was playing on my phone) a skin programme the other night - it was like amateur hour

The Dr was "Oh" "Well I've never seen that before" "what's this" "oops"

It seemed to be: make an incision, have a squeeze and see what pops out !
