Mods: I have no idea where to post this - Health, Travel, where else? Please be gentle.

As par of a bigger plan, I am going to reward myself with my first pilgrimage walk, in light of my health it will be a 5 km one-day affair.

I am looking for a simple army-style backback, ideally something in dark green, heavy cotton drill fabric, unstructured as they used to be, with leather/rubber fasteners.

No fashion brand, no ourdoor brand, not deconstructred reimagined trad/ivy/Hackett version.

What is the 50 GBP variant, demob, of Austrian/Bavarian? Schoeffel?

It should be somewhat rustic because two patches are to be sewn on it.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Army and navy stores may be useful perhaps?

Yes, came across Swiss army backpack "salt and pepper" and Capman's gentrified 250gbp backback and others.

What is the name of the "standard kit" British army model?

For a 5km walk? As in a 1 hour walk?

Yeah just checked the route, it is 10km one way, so 20.

So I not need a "tactial" PBD kind of backback, but something a muted green colour, not too big, not metal frame. Looked at the various army shops and yes, the German BW Gebirgsrucksack or the Swiss one might be "it" but I am still open minded for alternatives. No camouflage but plain and natural fibers. Leather fittings, not nylon.

It will need to carry some bread rolls or sandwiches, maybe a flask, not much else. No tactical assault weapons or tactical tat. Maybe a notebook (of the paper variant).

I'm intrigued at the requirement for heavy rustic fabric?

I've used one of these for ages and it's spot on as a day sack. £48 and available in a range of colours but they do a basic green:

Aldi carrier bag?

Then spunk the other £49 in the pub at the end.

I am checking Chapman, Croots, Farlow's house brand (Chapman?), Tusting. Made in Britain would be great. No man-made fibers, as a matter of principle. Yes, even cotton is "made" by men, I know.

I am developing a series of solo retreats, themed and prepared, to look at myself, my life. We are talking mid-Saturday to Sunday afternoon, once a month, over a 7 months. As a reward for completing it, I am going to walk on a pilgrimage path, not Camino but elsewhere. That will be in May next year. It is not really the Amazonic wild forest, so no need for SWAT gear. Something which blends in with the countryside, modest and not from a fashion brand with offshore manufacturing operatuions.

and Women.

A roman path? is this a walk organised/recommended by The People's Front of Judea?

Cuckmere Pilgrim Path is very pretty and interesting and Salisbury Cathedral to Winchester is amazing - lovely villages/views etc.

Walking is an amazing activity to free the mind and get the space to think about things and even not think about things all at the same time.

Thank you. Not a group thing, nothing is organized other than me having pre-booked accomodation, it is my own idea, I need to work on my life and that works best on my own. I need to take an inventory of what is on and what is missing, and then answer 7 sets of questions.

I am staying one hour of drive away from my home, in a modest but not spartanic Christian "hotel" which is more like a boardinghouse, but not sleeping on a bale of hay either. Low cost, low expectations, time for myself.

Sounds ideal. Something to look forward to doing - which can be scary and exciting as you dont know what answers or thoughts will come up !! Im sure it will help provide enlightenment and direction. Good luck.

Thank you.

Conceptual preparation is essential - who am I, what do I need, what is missing, whom do I know, and then 7 session with more questions. Will prepare A3 worksheets, bring a moleskine notebook, develop a ritual to open/close the session, leave phone in car, pre-book appropriate food and so on.

Sounds, to me, like you're massively over-thinking what is supposed to be a short, contemplative stroll. It's almost as if involving as many people in your lone mission sates an attention-seeking trait.

Planning specific bags, branded notebooks, multiple questions etc - it's just importing prevarication and stress. if you really wanted a pure experience, you'd just grab a couple of things you already own, make a sarnie, and start walking. Else you're just like people who are 'going to give up smoking next Monday'.
