A few years ago (34) I was bitten on the knee by a ruddy great mosquito.
After about 5 days I found it difficult to walk and eneded up getting a antibiotic shot in A & E.
Since then, never had a problem and my wife has acted as the sacrificial....er can I say dummy when on holiday.
Cut to last weekend and in the garden flip flopping between garden work and cooling off in a paddling pond.
While by the pond, something bit my leg and when looking saw a fairly small black fly.
Didn't look Mosquitoish and not a Horsefly but I certainly felt the bite.
I'm guessing that when I whacked it, I encouraged its brains to express into my leg.as, after 3 days, the swollen/red area is a good 2 inch diameter.

Blandford Fly...
get bitten it will swell like f.
Just googled it and yes, that’s the little soandso.get bitten it will swell like f.
Seems quite a nasty beast.
The bite is going a bit messy in the middle and the swellling has stopped at about 2 inch.
Itching has nearly gone but feels like a bruise to touch.
Thanks for identifying.
