Inspired by the verruca thread and the combined experience of the forum giving the OP some great guidance can i call upon fellow forummers with fungal toe issues to give me some military grade solutions to scabby toes.

I've tried Nailner, Curanail, Emuaid, Scholl - Once-a-week....none seem to mak any difference and it's spreading to more toes as time passes.

Hit me up with your old wives tails...if eye of newt and bat testicles fix it i will give them a try!

I've always been ok with nails - but last 6 months have had an issue with 1 finger nail and 1 toe nail.

The Scholl stuff sorted the finger no problem.

But reckon i'm going to have to go industrial with the toe.

No photos - wouldn't be right - but keen to hear of any solutions too!

Have I read the OP correctly? You're using those treatments once a week?

I used Nailner for two fungal toenails I just couldn't get rid of, and had to apply it twice a day for a month. It felt overkill and I didn't see any progress until one day the nail started to visibly change, but it was a military-style operation to remember to apply it every day. I remember taking the stuff on holiday so I could keep the treatment going.

FWIW, although those treatments tell you the nail grows out, in both of mine the old nail eventually just came off and when the new one grew back it was fine.

Get to your GP (appreciate this may be easier said than done) and get a prescription for terbinafine tablets - you will probably have to have a blood test for kidney function first

I have had manky toe nails for as long as I can remember but have been taking the tablets for a couple of months and can see that the nails are growing back 'normally' - will take a while for them to grow out but positive results so far

Its a good point raised above - curanail, nailner I just didn’t have the military application to remember to do them daily. The scholl once a week treatment, now that I am on the road less I am better at ensuring I do it twice a week but I think I will also go to the Docs for a course of anti fungal tablets.

Cheers all!

+1 for the terbafine. Don’t get fobbed off with anything other than an oral (ooh-err) treatment. Tried all the nail cures and nothing worked for 2 yrs until was told a tablet was available

This. And if you do a search on here you’ll find a few threads over the years saying similar.

Word of warning, I had the blood test before they’d give me the first pack of terninafine, seemingly it threw up an erroneous result and I then spent a day in hospital and had multiple blood tests for several weeks before they conceded all was well and I could start on the pills.

Also, I had horrible nightmares every night whilst taking the terbinafine. Sorted the nails entirely though.

Oral terbinafine or itraconazole, pulse treatment is best.
Terbinafine 500mg once daily for a week, repeated every couple of months for six months or so is my preference.

That's the stuff I used after many other concoctions failed. I applied it more frequently than it said on the tin. The nail was much better by the time the bottle, mine was £34, ran out. I bought one more and then cut the infected part out when that was exhausted.

I was telling one lad at my rugby club when the physio suggested she take a look. Out came a jeweler's magnifying glass, a few tutts, and I was told to carry on for another bottle. That was 12 years ago. No repeat.

£100 nearly (the physio got a reduced price bottle).

Worth it, and probably cheaper taking into account the total of all the other products.

It really is the best out there. I tried bloody loads of them. If the infection is mild, a couple of treatments and your good.

Lamisil is also the best (imho) for keeping Athletes foot at bay as well, which is the precursor to manky nails.

The topical once a week stuff is once a week, because it has a ridiculously long half life and can be detected several weeks later. Applying it more frequently will do no harm, but probably no good either.

Go to a podiatrist. I’m planning to go to one near me that will drill tiny holes in the nail to get the medicine to the effected area.

Seems safer than tablets that are/can be harsh in your kidneys.

Visit your GP, I tried everything for a long time when I should have went to the GP.
6 months treatment sorted it, never been a problem since.

Edited to add after reading above comment, had before and during blood tests to ensure no damage to kidneys,

Hmm, I wonder if a Dremel would work?

I had a very fungal big toe nail for years, and this worked. But you must get a repeat and keep going if the fungal part hasn't fully grown out, or you'll be back to square one.
