Evening all,

Does anyone take a supplement that helps with their guy health?

Basically feel bloated gassy all the fking time right now. 46 years old - slightly overweight (working on this) stressful work and overworked (understaffed).

Looking at getting something natural that can help with this bloated feeling. At work I often feel like I need to drop the kids off at the pool but nothing...apart from gas. Usually I go once a day but can anything help clear me out ?

Is the above a stupid question ? My social's timelines are full of adverts for stuff I've been trying to research, the whole area is pretty confusing. Mentioned this to a GP pre covid and she gave Fibrogel but I'm not constipated...I go once a day but I think she just wanted me out the door !

I know its not a great subject but any personal experience appreciated.

Have a great evening everyone.

Baz

Bloating can be caused by a huge array of things, but almost always it is the diet, or a gut infection (such as in SIBO), low stomach acid (hypochlorydia).

We would really need a complete diet diary for 3-4 days to give suggestions to try - and also if you appear worse on certain days.

RE supplements specifically for bloating - again, if it is diet causing the issue (e.g. intolerance to gluten, dairy etc) then supplements will not really help. Some probiotics can help, particularly Lactobacilus casei, Lactobacilus plantarum, Lactobacilus acidophilus, Lactobacilus rhamnosus GG, bifidobacterium breve and also bifidobacterium infantis.

Thanks for your reply. My symptoms matched those advertised by a company advertising on my FB timeline - basically saying these supplements will clear you out and make you feel better overall. That then got me looking into it.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

IBS etc don't exist in populations who don't eat crap. Avoiding a crap diet in the Western world is increasingly difficult. Then an industry grows up to sell you something to treat the resulting problems.

There seem to be a lot of studies coming out that recommend a more natural diet (listen to "A thorough investigation" on BBC Sounds), intermittent fasting, getting plenty of sleep and generally stressing less as a way to have a healthier gut and a healthier life generally. If you must supplement it seems sauerkraut and live yogurt are your friends...

You can take all the supps in the world , but if you're eating food that doesn't agree then its a big waste of money, try to pinpoint what is causing the problem, look at a diet low in FODMAPS, most GPs are hopeless when it comes to dealing with gut health.
