Hi

For the last few months I've been getting weird vision issues where one minute my eyesight is crystal clear and the next I'm squinting with a proper angry face trying to make out detail because everything has gone blurry but also seems like dark areas are darker and less detail. It seems to pass after a while.

Mentioned it to optician and they said to get blood test off GP. Went to GP and they said to go to optician but agreed to a blood test and glucose etc all clear.

I'll give the optician a try next but I had a test last year and came away with glasses for very near computer screen work but told not to wear them generally.

Is this just normal for late forties? (47 and mostly otherwise fit).

It's the variability that bothers me. Anyone else get this?

Thanke

Couple of things (just a ramble - no medical knowledge here!)

It is surprising how quickly I noticed my eyesight decline after my first pair of glasses - similar to you - they were just for close computer work.

2 years later they had to be changed. A further 2 years and I'm lost without them for things like reading menus or cooking.

At a similar time I noticed 'floaters' in my sight... this made me a bit anxious - so much so, that I couldn't 'not' see the damn things! They are fairly normal at midlife life - but at the time I didn't realise this and started to think there might be a problem... so the anxiety got worse... and so on...!

Also - (and this might be total BS that is doing the rounds at the moment) - Have you had covid in the last few months? (I think we all have!) - I did read alot of people are noticing vision issues - similar to the way describe, with going from dark to light*

  • I have no idea if there is a shred of truth in this - but I've noticed it to. (or did I only notice it after reading all the 'long covid' symptoms?!)
