Was doing some training with one of new team for about 2 hrs. Stood up and my arse felt 'tender' - I thought it was as a result of sitting in the wrong position for too long. Seems I have a cyst frown It's at the top of my arse, and it's got a farily large swollen 'ring' around it. Got some anti-biotics for it this morning so hopefully it clears up. For those of you that have had this does it normally clear up or does it require surgery ? The doc said that may be the ultimate end result which is a PITA as I'm off boating on the Norfolk Broads at the start of june. Arse ! (literally)

If it's a pilonidial cyst it could be bad news:

Be careful looking at the second one - it's not pretty.

The training sounds worrying. What on earth were you doing to get an arse cyst?

a mate was plagued with them for years, they'd heal, then flare up again, eventually he got surgery [ to take out the root ? I dunno ] but not a nice thing.

i kidded him on he wasn't wiping properly, but he was shower twice, or more, a day guy, so it wasn't a cleanliness thing.

I had a peri anal abscess…
Was a very keen mtb racer and fell ill during a race, though knew i had a lump. It was poisoning me, Dr gave me anti-biotics, which fed it over a week or so and grew to the size of a fist!. Got taken to A&E and operated on that day..
3 months of nurses coming to pack my ass daily with ‘seaweed’, to promote flesh growth ( a big scoop was taken out) then weekly visits to hospital to have the over granulation (excessive scaring) burnt off with liquid nitrogen.
Took 6 months off work, was back on the bike in 9 months.

Take a bath and soak, if you’re a cyclist, showers just don’t cut it.

Overall a real pain in the ass.

Good luck.

Mountain bikes seem to cause all sorts of problems. I had sciatica. Had X-ray and MRI. I was shown the state of my L5 and it meant nothing to me. Saw a physio who was looking at my results and asked, 'Do you cycle?' I had the thighs of someone who regularly cycled 200 miles a week, so no great guess. 'Do you cycle off-road?' I agree that about 75% of my cycling was indeed off-road. 'And you have no suspension at the rear or on the saddle.' That was a statement. 'I've seen a lot of this,' she said, as if it was an accusation.

During the physio sessions she asked if I had a shortish top tube. This was getting spooky.

Evidently, the crunched position I adopted caused the problems. I had to give up cycling, even on roads, even with suspension. It's bee four years nearly and I still miss it, more so than when I had to give up alcohol in 1979.

Ha, i know it! I raced BMX and Cycle Speedway in the 80’s, dirt jumped the 90’s and worked in the bike trade for 20 years… with all the bike riding and bone breaks involved in that daft game, including 24 hour solo races (fully rigid), road racing, CX, Monster Cross etc etc.
I had a spine x-ray and the Dr said ‘you’ve had a tough life’.
The last 5 years have been breaking wrists on trials bikes.
I now just shoot clays, ride a fatbike occasionally and ‘keep’ BMX’s wobble
