I've been bald for 10+years. With that statement, I've been shaving my head with a razor as I'm thin on top.

I'm letting it grow and hoping not to get a bill bailey.

Anyone else?

Yes, but that's because I now have hair, following a transplant wink

Don't think I could cope with hair, mine all fell out when I was mid 20s so I've had longer without hair, mind you I wouldn't mind trying out a Terry Nutkins rather than a Bobby Charlton.

Mine started thinning mid 20s right about the time I met the wife funnily enough, that being said im 41 now and have been cropping my hair since I was about 17 so I'm not going to change.

I think I'd look strange with hair at this poin and I like the convenience of not having to be bothered about it.

No. I started losing my hair mid 30s and straight away I went for a No1 all over. That was 25 years ago so I don't think anyone would recognise me if I changed now.

I'd look like a monk. So that's a hard no from me. I look enough like a tt as it is.

You might be surprised. I had thin hair through my teenage years and so started shaving it all off when I hit early 20s as I was fed up of it looking see through and getting snide comments from others . Got used to it and a shaved head seemed to have less of a stigma than thinning / balding. Anyway I hit my mid 30s and went through a bad patch where I couldn’t be bothered cutting my hair… it’s never been so thick biggrin now almost 40 and starting to look like an 80s glam rock guitarist hehe

Mine fell out when I was 17, between 0-12 I used to have it cut on #2 or #1.

I grew it between 12-17 and died it, at one point it was long. I then decided to go for a different look at shaved it on #0. I was about to start a new office job so decided to grow it again but when it came back the front was very thin, tried the spiking it up slightly for a few months and then decided to go for #0 and then eventually BIC.

Have to BIC it ever 2 days now, during lock down I decided to not bother cutting it and looked like some kind of mad scientist, ended up with some kind of mullet. Safe to say first day the pubs opened it got cut off.

This would be me - except instead of business at the front, party at the back, it would be abandoned retail park at the front, party for one at the back.

That was what mine was, a monk mullet.

^^THIS.

No one cares if you're going bald. But trying to pretend you're not going bald when you are is, quite rightly, a source of derision.

Having gone thin on top in my 20s and shaved it off weekly ever since, it is one less thing to worry about.

Liberating.

Hair transplants, wigs or comb-overs? Why?

I've cropped to 0.5 all over for about 15 years (43 now) and I couldn't imagine having longer hair again. I hate it when I let mine get to a couple of mm in length. It's easy, simple and it looks 1000x better than what I'd end up with if I let it grow out.

I've done the typical thing of growing a beard to compensate.

I've never actually gone full-razor on mine, I just use clippers without the guard.

Nah, can't be arsed.

Started going bald at 30, now 60.

Once it started, I went to a No.1 and now shave my head once a week with clippers & run over it every day with my electric razor.

It still grows quite fast on the sides & top & if I leave it too long, I end up looking like this.

Even if they brought out a pill that magically restored all your hair, I don't think I'd bother.

That's the best way to be, I reckon.

So many people worry about losing their hair and it is really not an issue.

Every once in a while i let mine grow a few weeks longer than I should. Then i catch site of the large bit missing on top and shave it and swear I won’t do that again (then i do). I find i look younger with it all gone than with the pattern baldness.

A friend of mine had hair transplants when he was about 28. Looked good for a few years, but his remaining hair kept on thinning and eventually he had tufts like a badly maintained lawn...looked ridiculous. He has to shave it daily or it looks patchy some 20 years later.
Worst thing you can do...it's just daft.
This was quite a while ago though...maybe techniques have improved?

Techniques certainly have improved, as has the advice on what to get done and when. What you described is the exact reason I waited eight years before undergoing a transplant i.e. I waited until I sustained pretty much all the hair loss before getting work done.

Even though I got it done only a few weeks ago, I'm really pleased with the early results, and this will notably get better between the nine and twelve month mark.

The comments I've received are quite funny, ranging from "nice haircut", "you look fresh", to "I don't think I've ever seen you with your hair that long before", etc. Nobody has directly asked me if I've had work done, either because they don't care, think it's too personal a question, or haven't quite worked out what's going on... No doubt, some will suspect I've had work done and I'm totally fine with that and would happily tell them if asked directly.

The big revelation for me is feeling like I have my identity back because I now look like the same person I was in my early twenties, albeit slightly older. I also look way better with a hairline, framing my face, than without. Some people look fine with the bald and beard look, though it just wasn't for me.

I hope it goes well for you and lives up to your expectations (people say that modern tattoos will last better too, but that also remains to be seen)

I'm not sure that your hair providing your identity is a good thing for you. What happens if you do lose it again?

Personally, I'm just a bloke in his forties who happens to be shaven-headed. I keep myself active, fit and have a range of interests and aims. Hair is not something I need to think about.

I never had a particularly great thatch or nostalgia for a golden age in my early 20s so I don't miss it.
