Hi all,

Anyone got any recommendations for skincare products or moisturisers for oily skin?

I've always had an oily 'T zone' as I believe dermatologists call it (forehead and nose) and I've always kept on top of it by wiping my face with those packets of face wipes when required, and I have a someone what over-exuberant showering/washing routine of every morning and every night as I just like to be clean.

My hair always had a tendency to be greasy as well, but again, the daily showering meant it wasn't an issue.

These days my 'hair' is now simply a number 1 or 2 all over as I was beginning to thin, and I really don't like the fact that my oily skin is now visible on my head!

I have never really used moisturisers as I thought that it would simply make me more oily, however I now understand this is totally wrong, and if you don't moisturise, your skin produced more oil/sebum to compensate for it, and my 'twice daily' showing routine was probably making things even worse.

I'm currently trying Kiehl's oil-free moisturiser and their Oil-eliminator spray mist. These seem ok, but has anyone else found any good products to stop yourself having shiny skin or a shiny head? smile

Thanks!

I've used 'Bulldog' products with success. Some moisturisers I find really oily and struggle with but this stuff is ace, for me..

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel & Intensive Moisture Balance - once you've experienced quality skin care products you won't settle for less!

Just using a moistriser won’t help. You need to implement a skin care routine. I had oily t-zone ans blackheads but not a issue anymore after looking after my skin better.

- using a face wash/cleanser morning and night to rid of grime, dirt etc
- toner (not necessary if you want to keep it basic)
- exfoliate 2-3 times a week
- moisuriser for night and a moisturiser/sun screen combo for mornings.

The hard part is finding products that suit your skin and solve the problems your having. I’ve used Jack Black products in past.

Diet also plays a big part in skin health. Just depends how much of a issue it is and balancing lifestyle choices, you don’t want to live like a monk!

Www.mankind.com is a decent website, even just to see products for men and look for cheaper elsewhere.

100%. Greasy and fatty foods = greasy skin.

Not true. Greasy skin is hormonal. However a crap diet will show in all areas not just on your face.

If you're spotty, you're just going to have to deal with it until you reach that age where your skin naturally dries out as hormones recede. Meanwhile, bask in the glory of looking younger than everyone else - but don't forget your sunscreen.

Meanwhile, cleanse, gently exfoliate with a flannel / cotton cloth, and moisturise. 'Scrubs' are overly harsh but a product which works a treat used sparingly is this: https://www.amazon.com/Ordinary-Peeling-Solution-3...

It really eats the sh*t out of your pores. Just follow the instructions and don't leave it on longer than advised. Use sunscreen afterwards.

The Ordinary is a great budget skincare brand, and you really don't need to pay more. All skin needs is exfoliation, hydration and sun protection. That is it.

MC speaks the truth. I exfoliate twice a week and it makes a huge difference.

Can someone who knows about skin confirm or deny the following;

The skin might go into oil production overdrive in response to overly frequent or intensive washing with soap?

My face situation improved when I started washing my face with cool or lukewarm water only. I use Bulldog sensitive face wash sometimes and a face scrub sometimes but the majority of the time- water only.

It does dry out your skin. Though it doesn't matter too much provided you moisturise afterwards, which you should be doing anyway.

Minimum SPF 15. This is starting to appear in products aimed at men and about time. UV radiation is present even on cloudy days, and while tans fade, wrinkles don't.

I do have some Kiehls face wash/cleanser and also some Kiehls toner, but I don't use them... I think it's time to start using them.

Thankfully, despite the oily skin, I haven't been spotty or had any skin issues since my early 20's. Even back then it wasn't too bad really, just the usual teenage spots, not acne.

Got to play the glad game I suppose, my oily skin has helped 'preserve me' and I don't seem to have any wrinkles or anything yet!

My diet is reasonable as I like to try to keep my weight in check and stay something resembling slim. If I ate what I wanted I would be overweight. So I'm somewhat forced to eat healthily Monday to Friday. Weekends I tend to eat out of relax my diet a bit.

I've struggled with acne since my late teens, and still do in my late 40's. I've found this to be the best for me,

Had bad ache from 12 years old. Never went. My mother would try all sorts of things, clay masks and witch hazel being the nadir. Skin would be terrible now if it wasnt for dermalogica. You should go and see a trained / qualified person who will be able to recommend exactly the best products to use for your skin. I use a daily exfoliator (not dermalogica), their clay cleanser and then the moisture balance. Skin has been pretty good for several years using their stuff, with some small changes to the products occasionally.

Washing repeatedly with soap or anything else like that will dry out your skin and make the oil production worse (the skin’s way of combatting dryness). The secret is to cleanse and moisturise daily, if not twice daily.

And yes, anyone who knows me who reads this, I know I know, I’m dead to you now.

I go through bouts of bad skin, unsure why as I’m 50 next year. Tried so many different products, and what I find now works for me, along with plenty of sunshine is:
