Here’s a weird one…

A month ago I looked in the mirror and noticed I had a bald patch in my moustache - i usually shave to stubble once a week to 10 days, using a hair trimmer. It hasn’t grown back and I can’t see any stubble there.

It’s really noticeable , and annoying as I am never clean shaven. I have good coverage elsewhere still.

It happened to coincide with , roughly, being clear of covid 10 days after testing positive . Possible symptom ? Wasn’t that bad for me.

I did however first notice it whilst using a nostril trimmer and my initial thought was I must have caught my moustache without realising it, as it was literally bald and I’m pretty sure it was fine the day before.

So, seemingly happened very quickly, possibly covid, possibly self inflicted, possibly random.

Question is , anyone else got a patchy beard or moustache and have you tried any of the remedies touted online with any joy ?

Sounds like alopecia areata.

As above Areata.

Commonly accused by stress but unfortunately no known cause and no known cure.

I get this quite regularly in one patch at the back of my head.

The first time coincided with a breakdown and although I’m far better than I was it returns when I’ve had a stressy time.

Sorry to hear that - does yours come and go?

Yes it does.

I’m well over the bad times but if I end up having a period of stress it tends to come back, usually for a few weeks and then goes again.

It’s only a small patch roughly the size of a 1p if that to be honest.

My GP diagnosed alopecia areata (spot baldness) and itcan be brought on through stress.

Thankfully I usually shave my head or a number 1 so it isn’t noticeable.
