Well in one ear …. I’ve just been sat on the sofa all night unable to sleep.
I’ve had Flu this week and my fever seemed to break last night however I now have conjunctivitis in both eyes and hearing loss in my right ear. It’s also hurts.
Left seems fine so far but right ear feels like someone has there fist in my ear.
It’s difficult to say what percentage but I’m sat about 6 feet from my tv and if I put my finger in my good ear I can hear what people are saying when it’s on volume 8 but it’s still muffled at that.
If my left ear goes the same way it’s going to make life pretty difficult.
I suspect there will be little the doctor can do I’m hoping similar has happened to others and it’s cleared pretty soon by itself ?
I’ve tried holding my nose and blowing but only very gently. Also tried steam inhalation and one of those warm microwave things held against it.
Going to call surgery to see what they say.

Earlier this year I had a cold that wouldn't shift, really got into my sinuses and I lost about 70% hearing across both ears. Not a lot the docs could do about it - sudafed and a nasal soray. Tried steam inhalation, valsalva as well but ultimately it just took about 3 weeks to come back.

To summarise, a sudden loss of hearing (over less than 2 days) is a medical emergency. Go to A+E, wait around all day and get tested otherwise if left for more than a few days, if it is SSHL, the hearing loss will be permanent. It may not be SSHL but there's no way of knowing unless ENT take a look.
(I had SSHL and didn't get treatment fast enough).

This sort of ill informed advice doesn't help the over burdened ED. Speak to your GP!

Ill informed?! I didn't have to Google that as it was based on my own personal experience. This sort of ill informed advice doesn't help the over burdened ED. Speak to your GP!
If you're lucky enough to even be seen (face to face) by a GP in the next 3 weeks (it's too late then anyway), they're more likely to tell you it's fluid in the eustachian tube from the cold/flu, come back in a few weeks if it's still bothering you etc.
The NHS own advice is to seek an urgent GP appointment for a sudden loss of hearing. This would be fine if an urgent GP appointment meant getting to see a GP same day but these days, it doesn't.

Get yourself some menthol crystals ( not to be confused with crystal meth) dissolve some in boiling water and inhale, if strong enough you should feel it hitting your toes. If one nostril/side feels worse than other, breathe in through that nostril for longer.I’ve had Flu this week and my fever seemed to break last night however I now have conjunctivitis in both eyes and hearing loss in my right ear. Also if you're sitting ta desk have a mug-full sitting next to you and you can breathe fumes indirectly, same when you go to bed at night, put a mug-full on bedside table.
They'll clear your sinuses out no end, make take a couple of days
It may be a little late on this occasion but here goes.....
Profoundly deaf with hearing-aids in both ears. My ears get totally blocked up when I suffer from colds so I end up with no hearing at all. I can empathise with those who suffer from loss of hearing - it's utterly debilitating!
Anyway I've found this little device which can help keep my internal tubes open to help fluid movement when travelling on planes and when trying to gently encourage them open again after a cold.
Not connected with the company but a happy user for such a simple device.

Few word of advice for those who get one?
You'll look weird using it, but who gives a hoot if it makes you feel better!
Don't blow like crazy through your nose - do it gradually and slowly. The back pressure through your nose helps force open your Eustachian tube (the tube between your inner-ear and back-of-throat) open.
Weirdly blocking the opposing nostril does work on the opposing ear for me - ie: block the right nostril to blow through the left nostril has an effect on my right ear and vice versa.
Don't use the same balloon time after time - read the instructions basically. As the balloon is inflated, it eventually loses it's resistance / elasticity and becomes easier to inflate defeating the purpose of the device!
