Hi

I eat three meals a day sometimes with snacks in the evening, breakfast lunch and dinner all occur at the same time some I'm curious as to why I have to go for a poo on an irregular time interval and why I'm pooping several times a day? It often seems I can't poop in one go at the toilet, I poop then have to finish off 30 minutes later. I drink bio yogurt products like yakult and often eat yogurt. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

do you drink coffee?

I could not be more regular if I tried.... breakfast, then coffee.... then the toilet!

Diet and exercise.

A banana for breakfast helps.

There's your problem - spread them out over the day

I get to work really early and drink a large strong coffee, what happens after we is pretty much unavoidable.

I also have a fairly balanced and healthyish diet which I guess helps.

A strong morning coffee will usually trigger something, but several times a day sounds like some form of irritable bowel. Despite what we are encouraged to believe, fibre isn't necessarily your friend. Or maybe it's the yoghurt? Try an elimination diet and see what changes.

You are supposed to poo after every meal so going multiple times a day is not an issue .

I dream of being able to have a 'one and done' every morning, like those people who can get up super early in the morning, take a dump and then do a 20 mile hike in the wilderness without ever worrying about needing to go again until the next day.

Given the length of time it takes to fully process food it could be up to 72 hours before you poop it.

I have the same problem as the OP. It has tried to restrict me from doing stuff all my life, and sometimes succeeds.

People wonder why I need to get up 2 hours before leaving the house, even if it's a 4am start.

No way can I have breakfast at a hotel and then just head out to work, hike or just enjoy a holiday.

I need time, lots of, back in the hotel room after.

Always irritated my (ex) girlfriend, who only seemed to go twice a week despite eating the same as me and being slim.

Another annoyance of having these biological bodies.

Guess it didn't matter when we lived in huts and just pooped in a field when out.

Really? Is it normal for it to take that long?

My digestive transit time is between 18 and 24 hours (you can time it using sweetcorn or pickled beetroot wink ).

I also used to be "one of those people" who got up in the morning and after about half an hour of being active, and having a coffee or two, I went the once and wouldn't worry about needing a loo for the rest of the day. Now, though, my "new normal" is at least twice a day, sometimes three times. I think in my case it's (at least partly) down to keeping odd hours and sleeping less, so I'm active more. Going to bed at anything up to 3am isn't unusual these days, and I'm always up by 8am regardless of what time I go to bed. My wife sees to that!

I'll be honest, though, and say that I'm less worried about frequency and more concerned about where "it" falls on the Bristol Stool Chart. If you see what I mean...

Warning: too much detail included.

I an intolerant of alcohol. When still a drinker, although rarely and with moderation, back in my early 20s, I had lots of digestive 'problems', including vomiting blood. I was told to eat a tablespoon of unprocessed bran a day. I spread this over my breakfast and it is all but invisible. While it did not cure my intolerance, it stablised my evacuation processes. It became a requirement for me to empty my bowels within 15 mins of getting out of bed. It is, as you might imagine, a major event, made worse by the requirement of my wife that I eat 'healthily'. This includes even more intake of roughage.

Recommended.

I often cannot remember if I have been to the toilet on any particular day which is quite surprising as my other half is always telling me I am full of st.

I do wee a lot though, probably something to do with the many cups of tea and coffee during the day.

Try eating less. Less in - less out, then maybe it'll come out in one go?

If your poops are small and hard to pass then you might want more fibre and water. If all of your daily poops are perfect then it probably is down to how much you're eating and having a good metabolism.

Not getting it all out in one go does sound like dehydration though. I am not a Dr but this would be a good question for you to ask one.

rofl Where did you get that idea?

That is not how you work. Try a Google for "what is poo made of?"

I go once or twice a week normally Saturday after a few beers Friday. I never poo at work and wait till I get home sometimes waiting all day!

When I do go its always for 30-40 mins and i always get a shower after otherwise it would be half a roll and I still wouldn't feel clean after.
