I've read a little online about this from last October and I've been hearing things anecdotally too, but now I've had personal experience having caught a cold early last week and it turned out to be an absolute stinker.

Usually a cold goes through me in clear stages over 2-3 days and then it's gone. But this thing hung around for a week then morphed into a sinus infection and then conjunctivitis. I've been pretty wretched although it started to lift yesterday and I'm a lot better today. I can't really remember a cold as bad as this has been, so is there something in it? Presumably Covid related?

After lockdown lifted last year I went through a series of getting really bad colds. I assumed because I hadn't been exposed to much for over a year and then wham, all at once. My youngest had just started nursery as well so was brining new diseases home with him weekly.

I have had one really bad one this year so far, plus a couple of minor ones. Does seem to be a lot worse than it used to be!

If I catch a cold these days then it seems too knock the bks out of me for at least 3 days. I will also inevitably end up blasting all sorts of rancid gunge out of my nose and lungs for at least two weeks. Dont know if they are getting worse or I am just getting older!

I haven't had a cold for around 5 years now, I have just recently had covid (first symptoms 3 weeks ago tomorrow - but now fully recovered and back running etc - in fact I went running on day 4!). Only other "illness" I have had in those 5 years was waking up with a sore throat, no other symptoms, went by mid-morning, came back the day after, gone by mid-morning and then didn't come back!

I used to get colds frequently when I was younger, but hardly ever now I'm older, which I'm thankful for. This bloody thing has come back (if it ever went away) and I now have a head full of swarfega and a sore throat that hurts like hell just sipping tea. 11 days now.

Definitely something different, I assume it's because for two years most of us didn't really get one or get much exposure.

Since December I've been hit with 3-4 different viruses which have given me a sinus infection and fever every time, it used to happen once a year not once a month! I just hope that it'll Settle down. I also caught covid in March which was worse than I expected but ultimately similar in terms of a sinus infection and fever, didn't really get any breathing issues.

OP, sounds similar to the one I'm just coming out of.

Last Sat cracking headache; Sun it was like I'd snorted Scotch Bonnet powder, my nose was on fire. Managed most of Mon at work (WfH); then totally wiped me out for the rest of the week, face felt like I'd been worked over by Mike Tyson; nose burning, sinuses killing me, eyes watery & itchy. Today first day I've felt anything near normal, though now my ears are blocked.

Did lft every day, but negative.

OH has had it too.

Probably the worst cold I've ever had. Don't remember ever taking time off work with a cold.

Not had anything for years

In about 2007 I got food poisoning (campylobacter) then seemed to suffer from viruses that made my neck swell up and gave me cold urticaria which has got progressively better but at one time, walking into the cold section in a supermarket would have my hands and legs red and itching and feet swelling up so it felt like I was walking on large pebbles.

But not had a cold or flu (or covid symptoms) since.

All I know it's that the fkers in Tesco wouldn't let me buy more than two packs of paracetamol yesterday. And lemsip counts as a pack

It's bad, but it's not that bad...

This winter I've had cold after cold. Normally it's one a year for me.

Another one started a week ago and I tested just in case and soldiered on. By day 5 I was pretty rough and tested again, Covid.

It's been exactly the same as the previous colds so far.

Agree, there are so many nasty little viruses about, most people I know, mystery included have caught something over the past few months, more than once as well. I too had time off work with it, which is rare!

It’s clear that locking the world down has reduced our overall natural defences against common colds and now they’re doing the rounds in a big way. The guy I have in charge of running the landscaping on our current project has had the stuffing knocked out of him three times now with various colds, and he’s built like an ox, and never takes time off usually.

At the moment what you think is a cold is almost certainly Covid. With 1 in 15 currently infected.

It's not showing up on test, as a few posters have mentioned. I've tested this one twice.

I was full on cold for 5 days until I tested positive.

Tests from day one were negative. Had to do them for work.

So I was a snotty, coughing Covid supplier for 5 days before I could officially stay at home.

Colds do still exist, Ive had a couple recently and they definitely weren't COVID.

I think the duration of them is probably just an age thing.

Covid is absolutely everywhere though, even more so in Scotland, so I do accept that for many it may well be Covid.
