Having not been swimming since lockdown and the poxy rules they put in place during that have saved them money so theyve no plans to go back to 'normal', my "fitness" is suffering.
All I do is walk really.

I thought a bench that can be inclined and a set of dumbells could be maybe set up at home somewhere and I could run through a half hour routine 2 or 3 times a week to try and get some different exercise going.

Any recommendations for suitable bench and set of weights and what exercises to do? Some pilates or yoga type stuff as a warm up might be a plan too, basically open to suggestions for a not far off 60, 4 stone overweight fatso.

Opening gambit on cost - less than £200 for everything needed.

Cheers all!

Wouldn't bother with a bench.......

Get a few dumbells that are in your comfort zone (ie not to heavy. not too light) and sign up to one of the fitness apps on the TV. I use Peleton (£30 a month ish)

Then you can do, Weights classes, Body weight classes, Pilates, Yoga, meditation, walking (outside), Boxing and others. All classes live or streamed on-dmeand.

There's also the Tread and Peleton bikes if your inclined, but you can just use the app.

£200? 30 minutes a day? Any basic routine, with DBs. You can buy them secondhand on Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace as everyone is going back to the gym. I picked up a 30kg DB for £25. biggrin (I suggest that you go lighter initially.)

You can do stuff like combining squats or lunges with shoulder presses for cardio.

But for decent development, try compound lifting - bench (or floor) press, deadlift, squats, shoulder press. The snag is that you'll soon find basic weights quite light.

And think about how you can make it fun/challenging so you keep doing it.

I bought a kettlebell and a skipping rope, there’s plenty of YouTube videos for various workouts.
Pumped the tyres up on my bike and ride around the local woods on it. Mixing these all up with doing couch to 5 k has kept me reasonably trim and fit.

I’m 53, so roughly same age.

A kettlebell and a set of resistance bands does the job for me - I was doing a boot camp so have taken some of the exercises from that and built myself a bit of a HIIT workout using them

I was doing session 3 times a week for over 30s men - an external group. Absolutely brilliant as you then have accountability to someone other than yourself

3 x 45min session at 6am to fit around work
