Tonsillitis question

Well at age of 50, I’ve got tonsillitis again…

Couple of questions. It’s confirmed as bacterial tonsillitis, and I’m on Amoxycillin, currently on day 4 of a 5 day course. However, it doesn’t seem to be doing anything - the only improvement has been a drop in temperature from 38.4 to more normal levels (37.6). The white spots on my tonsil have massively increased to cover the entire tonsil. When can I expect the antibiotics to kick in?

Also, on a more ‘just curious’ note, it’s only one tonsil that’s affected. How come the other tonsil doesn’t get affected if it’s bacterial?
