My healing abutment fell out just now and I have read that if it is out for more than a few hours it will need minor surgery to correct, as the gum grows over it.

My dentist that put it in does not have an emergency number, should I contact another one?

Its 10pm here in the UK... anyone else had this?

I'd call the dentist who put it in first thing in the morning as it sounds like the dentist is in the UK. Other dentists may refuse to treat you unless it's on a 'at your risk' basis and say go back to the source. It sounds like their problem and if it involves more surgical work it should be at their cost if it's their fault. I doubt the gum will grow over in a matter of a few days.

Does the implant have a lifetime guarantee and what type is it? I'm not a dentist but obviously have done my research before going ahead for dental work and implants and so far have not had the problem you seem to have encountered - it sounds quite rare?

Some dentists peruse these pages and despite one of them telling me not to go abroad under any circumstances for dental treatment stay in the UK your experince appears to sadly highlight problems can occur anywhere, although in the UK they come at greater financial costs!

Good luck and hopefully you'll get an answer in the morning.

Hey dude!

thanks for replying.

THe implant was fine, it was the screw inside it (Temporary - to stop the gum healing over it, a 'healing abutment') that popped out.

Unfortunately my Dentist doesnt do 24/7 emergency so saw them in the morning.

The gum had indeed begun to grow back over the implant, in just a few hours!

Thankfully it was only a bit, so a bit of scraping with the scraper (and a little blood!) it was all good. She got her Milwaulkee 18V impact driver and put a new abutment in.

The end. smile

This happened to my wife about 3 months ago. 2 implants, 2 healing caps, 1 came loose and fell out. Dentist simply screwed it back on the next day.

Do you have someone with you who could return the cap to its rightful place?

I skimmed the thread so sorry if you lost it.

Eta: re read it. Glad its back in place. What did the implant cost you if you dont mind me asking? Wifes were 5.5k total for 2.

Also Kent, middle not a london commuter town.

Implants at 2.5k each. £300 doctor to oversee general anaesthetic. She wouldnt do it otherwise. Dental fears. Temporary dentures in between make up the other amount, which the dentist lost so we didnt get.
