Elderly day care centre just for the day
Discussion
There are a number of daycentres for elderly people, however few are positioned to offer higher acuity dementia care:

I chair a charity that runs one for adults with SEN but referrals come via the council/social workers etc. - Elderly dementia car is likely to be similar but like all of these centers there would need to be a formal/regular day of care/respite so that they can be staffed appropriately.

See if there is a dementia support cafe near them, a local one to me runs twice a month.
I think its aimed at providing support for carers by meeting others in the same situation as well as a bit of down time while volunteers help so if there is one it may need to be sussed out as to whether they are ok her going out to get things done but could lead to other connections that could be used.
