I had a filling replaced a few weeks ago, it fell out this morning.

Phone dental practice, a month before my dentist can see me. I ask if I can see a different dentist, no can do, not without paying again. Then bored receptionist trots out the "we're still catching up after covid" line.

Seem ridiculous, isn't 4 weeks a bit long, and shouldn't a different dentist at the same practice be able to look after me?

You can get temp filling compound (something like dentex IIRC) £6 ish on amazon, same stuff as dentists use - kept me going for about 8 months waiting for RCT.

Found it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08VXQRQN7/ref...

Generally speaking covid is still affecting dentists because they may have staff that are having to self-isolate. Also, for stuff with drills, they have to clean down the room after a patient has gone. This adds to the time and slows things down.

If they're so busy how come they can get you in if you pay again ?

Money making racket is dentistry

I couldn't get the temporary filling to stay in. It kept falling out even when trying to avoid eating on that side.

I would expect the dentist to offer a priority appointment if their workmanship failed.

My thoughts entirely.

If I need to pay again it won't be with the same practice.

Thanks, I've just lost a big filling and whilst I'm not in pain I keep getting loads of food stuck in it. Can't get an appointment until 7th March so will give this a whirl. The dental equivalent of running on a space saver!

In normal times I can normally get an appointment with my dentist within 2-3 days so there must be a lot of Covid catch up going on.

Just to clarify, mine hasn't stayed in for 8 months, it's a bit like triggers broom! Sometimes it lasts a week, sometimes several weeks, maybe a month. But the tubs last months, it's easy to do, and cheaper than 30-40gbp a visit to fit a temp one (long wait for RCT).
