Been having this intermittent discomfort/ache for the past few days that radiates between my left groin and 'sack area and sometimes down towards the butt and up into the thigh. I've had a feel of my bks, no lumps or bumps and no pain or burning when peeing. I'm thinking to give it another few days or a week before seeing my GP but thought I'd ask on here what could be causing it and if anyone's had similar.

Do you cycle? I had the same and it was my saddle on my road bike.

Best of luck with it, hopefully the GP gets it sorted really fast. When it's anything to do with the ball sack it's a nervy time.

Could it be sciatica?

It may be something called Varicocele, basically an enlarged vein in your balls, normally in the left one, the discomfort can effect parts of the groin and testes, or it could be something different, but get it checked.

If it was he'd be able to feel it when checking and maybe even see it, I know from experience. I agree on getting checked if it doesn't subside though

I don't cycle. Think I'll try and get an appointment with GP tomorrow instead now, better to be safe than sorry I guess.

I had very similar before Christmas and the GP thought it could be prostatitis (very common) but couldn't really trace the problem. So I was referred to a urologist after antibiotics and anti inflammatories did nothing and then on for an ultra sound. Turns out it was a varicocele, but it wasn't picked up on a physical exam. I'd just get yourself booked in with the GP as it literally is a ball ache to live with.

Not keen on taking abx unless doc can confirm it’s an infection maybe through some kind of urine test? Anyway, the ache only seems to come on when sitting and not when lying down. Maybe it’s muscular. Will still go to my GP tomorrow if I can.

Mine felt more muscular than an infection, it's on my left side and more painful in my buttock if I walked up hill? There's a lot of things it could be with similar symptoms so it defo doesn't hurt to get checked out, even just for peace of mind and to make it more comfortable....good luck

Inguinal hernia perhaps? Have you done the cough test?

THIS ^^^^^^^
The clue is in lying down, that's when the inguinal hernia retracts (when bad the hernia can descend into the bk - time to have it sorted quick).

How do I know?

Expert here (no, 'course not!) - I'm just guessing, but this might help someone with troubling pain down below.

Someone mentioned prostatitis -
I had that while in Cuba years ago - how would I describe it?
Most accurate is either:
'a' not being unable to pee at all!
or
'b' far worse - pissing barbed wire!
So, my guess is it's NOT prostatitis.

My guess as above is it's an Inguinal Hernia. I emphasise it's a guess.
But I have had 2, one rh side when I was 18, one lh side almost 50 YEARS later!

Classic symptoms of 'pain down there'.
'Once' the hernia eventually shows (a lump/bulge in the groin) it will usually disappear when you lie flat.

Hope your GP doesn't do what mine did (re my 2nd hernia - I knew what it was and had said to him I've got an Ing. hernia' -
he replied: 'I'll be the judge of that.'
And then asked me to ...'lie down on the couch'. Jesus wept!
After prodding and poking etc he eventually asked me to stand and 'cough'. Bingo!

After my first Inguinal hernia repair in 1968, the surgeon told me with prophetic words, 'At some point the other side will herniate.'
He was right, as said, nearly 50 yrs later.

Had 2nd one done private under a Local anaesthetic, as NHS wanted me to have it done under a General anaesthetic - no bloody thanks!
instead I chatted to the surgeon throughout while he operated.

I had keyhole surgery to repair an IH in December, which was highly successful with zero adverse effects. As mentioned these can impact and affect all sorts of areas which was a surprise to me! Went in at midday for my op and was home by 6pm (NHS).

Another suggestion, as I’ve had a number of aches/pains around lower back/groin, is if your hips have rotated (not something a lot of consultants would necessarily look for). Again mine had and the pain can be absolutely hideous. A good test of this is to lie flat on your front/back in a natural position, and get someone else to visually check if both your legs are of equal length. You may find they are out of kilter, which certainly gave me excruciating pain at times, usually after sitting too long but running also messed me up. My specialist was able to realign me and made matters significantly better.

Good luck OP, try not to worry as neither are likely to be too serious and can be remedied.

Thanks all for the suggestions and calming advice. Actually feeling a bit better today. Tried getting through to my GP this morning to no avail so will try again tomorrow.

Sure it's nothing serious and you'll be fine.

I've had reason to call my docs over similar things and although normally you have to call in the morning for appointments, calling in the afternoon and mentioning pain "down there" got me straight through to the nurse for a chat.
