Eye prescription confusion
Discussion
Just been for an eye test and not surprisingly my sight has got worse in all respects.
I now have different prescription for;
- distance (+1.25)
- mid range (+1.25)
- close (+1.75)
Speaking to the optician he suggests if I didn’t want to go for 3 pairs of glasses I could like at varifocal, bifocal or occupational focal lenses.
I should work out what combinations I need and then buy those.
So, this is where I’m getting confused, I’ve thought about what I do and therefore the combinations I need and they’re;
- driving - distance / mid
- work - mid / close
- home - distance / close
The distance / mid and distance / close are no issue but struggling to find on line that I can buy the mid / close…… am I really looking for a 2.50 / 3.00 prescription?

Buy some decent mid/distance glasses for everyday and some cheap generic close distance glasses for work.
I'd agree but perhaps spend the extra on reading glasses by getting them to your prescription as the difference between cheap Chinese shop generic and bespoke is night and day.Mrs Shanks got 2 x pairs of Varifocals from Asda for £96 total. They didn't work the first try but after another go the optician got them spot on. The price for two pairs of varifocal is amazing and even cheaper than the online place I use!
OK they're from the entry level frame range but the styles are OK and at least you don't come out looking like a spot welder.

Are those the actual prescriptions for intermediate & near or are they "near add" numbers? Mine are quoted as distance, say 1.5D, & then a Near Add of +1 so the actual near prescription is +2.5D
In my experience good varifocals aren't cheap & I never got on well with them.
Yes they’re distance +1.25 then add +1.25 for mid or add 1.75 for close.In my experience good varifocals aren't cheap & I never got on well with them.
