I tested positive on Wednesday morning after symptoms Tuesday evening. Slightly sore throat, bit of a headache, slight cough and blocked nose. This morning I've woken up with loss of taste and smell. Anyone else had that? I thought the taste thing would have happened on day 1, instead it feels like I'm getting worse not better?

Similar to my experience (delta in Oct last year)

Felt a bit under the weather but not enough to stop working (from home). Only tested because the wife tested positive.

3 days later, had a takeaway curry (2 dishes) where I remarked that “the curry house has gone downhill as these dishes all taste the same” - “no they don’t” says the wife…..

It got worse, coffee tasted like acid and I could no longer smell the chlorine in the hot tub smile

Wasn’t that enjoyable to lose sense of taste and smell but it came back fine in about a week

Ok thanks good to know this isn't that bizarre.

Funnily enough I cooked curry last night and tasted fine, was only in the shower this morning I noticed I couldn't smell the shower gel, then my morning coffee tasted like hot water. rofl

I had it last summer. Took me four days from testing positive to losing taste and smell.
It was Tangy Cheese Doritos which showed it up for me!

Makes me wonder that technically day's quarantine is up on Sunday, but I'm getting new symptoms on day 3? Does that make any difference?

Yep. Took several months to get my sense of taste back, my colleague took almost a year.

Similar to yourself I lost taste and smell on day 4 or 5, just as I was otherwise starting to feel better. I found that the most unsettling part, but like others it slowly came back after about 10 days or so.

Nope, same as everyone else.
LFT on day 5, if negative and haven't got a high temperature, repeat on day 6 and if the same you're good to go.
If you're still showing positive on your LFT then its isolate until you get 2 clear days of negative UPTO and including day 10.
After day 10, you're free to go whatever.

ETA: I showed positive on the LFT beyond 10 days, I was told this isn't uncommon.

Ok thanks for clarifying, best hope for those negatives then.

Daughter had it back in Aug last year (presumably delta).

She's still not fully got back either her sense of taste or smell.

Yeah, mine hasnt fully returned, strong smells are fine but miss any more subtle ones and used to have a pretty keen sense of smell.

It’s different to smell/taste loss with a cold which can come in and out due to mucous obstructing the sensory glands, this is like a switch being flicked.

Worst bit for me was after a couple of weeks of zero, as it started to improve I could then just smell a disgusting burning smell, or at least more of a feeling of being near a stinking bonfire and and feeling it gives in your nose, but with no escape from it.

Strange, as an ex Smoker of almost 10 years,
I could smell Cigarette Smoke everywhere I went. When there was actually no smoke.
I've only just now realised its gone, since I read this post!

Had exactly the same - loss of taste after 3 days. Thankfully returned after 3 more days as I agree with others, it was the worst part of the experience.

Mine went a few days in way back in July and still hasn’t returned. I get occasional brief smells of strong things and worse get this toilety Smokey smell that lingers for a while and it’s awful.

Blimey, total lottery then. Safe to say that my one excitement of quarantine weekend of just eating and drinking has been ruined though.

My wife lost taste & smell after about 5 days, I didn’t.
It returned yesterday, she smelt cannabis while out for a walk! Taste also returned today.

Day 6 and I’m still testing positive. Taste 100% gone still. To the point that I drank some neat vodka last night just to check and it might as well have been water.

Cool original for me!
Had a coffee in the morning, completely normal.
Half an hour later, opened a pack of Doritos and nothing, no smell whatsoever.
Couldn't taste any flavour at all, though could still sense bitter/sweet/acid et cetera.
Lasted about two weeks.
I was chopping up a tonne of garlic for dinner when I so thankfully was just able to smell it again.
Any longer and I probably would have taken a large rock for a walk off the wrong side of my boat.

I'm in no way a conspiracy nut but the way both taste and smell seemed to turn off like flicking a switch did make me think "this ain't natural!".
