Anyone succesfully improved their cholesterol ratio?

Quacks have told me that they want to put me on statins, they say my total cholesterol is low but the HDL/LDL ratio needs improving, wondered if anyone here has had any success?
What figures are they quoting? My serum Cholesterol/HDL ratio is 2.78 and my 'overall' (serum) cholesterol is 5.8 but no mention for me re statins albeit I'd have thought at 5.8 I'd be in the target audience?Armitage.Shanks said:

TBH I have some other health issues they are saying contributes to their decision, so my figures wouldn't be of much use?At least your doc is aware of HDL//LDL ratio so they’re relatively switched on. Statins? Proper rabbithole. Are you in your 50s and head a heart attack? Could be useful, otherwise not.
Soooo much info out there now around all this which is shining a light on decades of deadends. You could do a lot worse than get a copy of Ivor Cummins book Eat rich live long. But good health comes from reducing sugars and starchy carbs and eating more healthy fats instead. Has the great side effect of reducing hunger on top of improving every aspect of health.

I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and they have added this to their equation, unfortunately, can't add fish oils to my diet as this recognised as contributing factor to AF!

Lol. I dry fry mine, but you can make nice dishes etc. There’s been some studies done suggesting they help to lower total cholesterol. I’m trying it, with an attempt at weight loss before taking any statin.
Not worried about lowering my total cholesterol but changing the HDL/LDL ratio? Mark300zx said:

My paroxysmal AF, like so many others, eventually became permanent, so I opted for a cardiac ablation.I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and they have added this to their equation, unfortunately, can't add fish oils to my diet as this recognised as contributing factor to AF!
That wasn't a great fix, as it raised my resting pulse rate and I still had AF episodes.
I decided to give up pretty much all alcohol. That made a huge difference to my AF episodes but also showed on rece t blood tests that it had also lowered my cholesterol to normal levels from overall 5.8.

Thanks, I have had 4 episodes of paroxysmal Afib and I am going to undergo an ablation in the spring, my alcohol intake is minimal, my cholesterol is already at a low level it is the ratio of good to bad cholesterol that I am trying to resolve That wasn't a great fix, as it raised my resting pulse rate and I still had AF episodes.
