My father has liver cancer and received TACE in the UK a few months ago. He then went to Oman as both of my sisters are there and were able to be with him and look after him as in England he was pretty much on his own.

Last week he had an MRI and some scans which showed the tumour becoming active again. The doctor in Oman and the doctor in England both agreed his next move is to go onto an IV drip every 20 days.

His options are to pay around £6k per drip in Oman and be able to stay with my sisters who are looking after him or come to England and receive it on the NHS but would be on his own.

Cutting to the chase, is there any way or anything anyone knows about where you can have the NHS cover the cost of the treatment overseas?

Is there any way one (or both) of your sisters could relocate temporarily to the UK?

Helpful.

Have a word with yourself and think about his situation for a minute.

I did.... and i sympathise, but why should the NHS go international... if you want NHS benefits you need to come home to get them.

You can get NHS treatment while in Europe so it's a valid question, and at the very least worthy of a non sarcastic response.

They're both stuck there,

I spoke with Macmillian and they advised to contact local CCG, it's possible to have it covered in some circumstances apparently.

As per the EHIC card? That's not for on-going or non-urgent treatment. That's so jolly uk holiday maker can use the local state-provided medical service. Not to go and live in a foreign country and carry on your on-going treatment.

That and you can also get planned treatment funded in Europe under certain circumstances, so not as black and white as your sarcasm implied. The OP is asking a valid question because he doesn't know the answer. My guess would be no, but I'm not an expert.

Are you in the UK?
Could you help your Father out if he returns for NHS treatment?

I am afraid the NHS will not fund his treatment abroad.
£6k per treatment sounds a very reasonable thing to spend his money on if it gives him some quality of life and time to spend with his daughters, if he chooses to stay out there.
