I am next of kin to a 70 year old recovering from a stroke and now in a care home having been discharged from hospital 5 weeks ago. Her physical recovery is progressing well, ie walking and able to write again, but she cannot return home as her partner would be unable to cope and there are relationship complications too. So I am starting to research her longer term living options. Although she is not in the best physical health I cannot leave her in a home with geriatric residents nearing end of life. My assessment is that she will need daily living support in a stimulating environment. PAYG is the only option as she does not have enough capital to but a suitable property and pay for a carer coming in once a day. Anyone been through this scenario?

Have Social Services agreed that she will be fit enough to return home? I think for a stroke she will be entitled to benefits that will pay for her care. A Care Assessment is the starting point.

Going back several years my mother had a stroke that affected her movement and not helped by having a hip replacement but the decision was her level of care could not be best provided in her own home. As such she ended her years in a care home of my choosing that surprisingly was fully funded by the LA.
