You don't have to be a pensioner if getting one privately, anyone can go to a Chemist and pay for one, we are encouraged to get them at work and cost can be claimed back on expenses.

Is she not able to get one through her own GP? My wife is a nurse within a GP surgery and they run specific clinics every weekend where they are vaccinating with flu jabs and covid boosters

I think it’s just massively busy. When I booked (Boots, private) with the odd exception, all available slots were in late November or ‘check back later’. Just have to be flexible with area

Assuming your mother is a pensioner she would most likely already have been contacted by her surgery to book a flu jab. Mine sent out text messages at the end of last month and I had mine on Oct 1st. You (she) shouldn't need to see a doctor, just book it with a receptionist and a nurse can give it.

Wife and I both simply ran the local surgery and booked a next day flu jab…..we were told they weren’t going out of their way to contact people though, which seems a bit daft and contrary to Govt policy.

I've been offered one by my GP for the last couple of years, I'm 58 if that makes a difference.
I declined

i've just seen comments querying similar on our local fb page, the surgery have run out of the over 65 jab & are having to cancel appointments that had been booked until their next batch arrives some time in Nov, so you may not have any luck with the surgery either.

This year, like last year, anyone 50+ or vulnerable got a free flu jab so hospitals wouldn't have flu patients when people with Covid also needed treatment.

I'm 60+ and got my flu vaccination at the Lloyd pharmacy in my local Tesco last week (20th).

I didn't know there was a shortage, but maybe the labs making it are torn between that and Covid boosters?

There was a hold up in the supply of flu vaccines four to six weeks ago, my original appointment had to be put back by over a week. It caused huge problems at my GPs because they'd set up flu clinic for OAPs at several surgeries and had 48 hours notice that the vaccines wouldn't be arriving.

We have a flu jab every year, lots of people don't or didn't last year but are now wanting it again; makes it difficult for GPs and pharmacies to know how many to order.
