Morning cough and splutter

I've just had surgery for a busted leg and immediately was given anti-biotics as par of the course ( I've never had any AB's for at least 20 years).
While sitting here looking out the windows have noticed I never sneeze, have to blow my nose nor have a cough and splutter in the mornings as I did pre accident and can only put it down to the ABs I was given post op.
I would like to ask 2 questions to anyone in the know. . . . .
1. Am I right in my assumption the AB's cleared my lungs/sinus etc?
2. Now I have them clean what should I do to keep them from building up again; exercise, sauna, steam, vitamins etc?
