My other half has to have an operation in a couple of weeks. She has to take a COVID test three days before and then self isolate. Fair enough.

She got a letter today saying the household MAY need to self isolate.

Online it just says may. I’ve got one day that will be a real struggle to get off and fk things up for work. Does anyone know where I can find out if I need to or not.

I just had to isolate for 3 days after a CV test and prior to a procedure. No-one else in the household had to.

It may vary by health authority (or possibly by procedure) as I know of others who had to test and weren't told to isolate.

ETA this was last week.

Ah that’s good to know! I’ll give them a ring tomorrow and find out. The letter that says about it is dated from may and can’t see anything newer.

Worse case is I can self isolate until I need to go to work and then stay at my parents for the night.

Our advice is to avoid as much contact as possible. You don't need to isolate but try to keep contact to a minimum. I do think it is trust specific though because a colleague had to shield with her housemate prior to surgery at another trust.

Just do whatever you want. You're an adult - it's completely up to you if you're going to isolate at home or not.

If she gets covid, the surgery will be postponed.

The more you or your household go out- the more chance of her catching covid.

Why do you need an answer spoonfed to you?

Whatever answer they give you is irrelevant. If she gets covid, the surgery will be postponed. Make your decision based on that.

Or - if the concern is post-surgery - again, you're adults, it's up to you.

If you all isolate, there will be less chance of her catching covid. No other opinion changes that fact.

Personally, I wouldn't be isolating, but as an adult, I certainly wouldn't be asking strangers on the internet if I should go out or not.

I go out every Saturday night, on the understanding that at least one person in every club I visit might have Covid.

Are you seriously asking on a car forum if you need to go to work or not, after your partner has an op?

We were also told that the patient needed to self isolate, but not the rest of the household.

That made no sense to us, so to be safe we all isolated. It just seemed the logical thing to do?

Pistonheads has many professions on here. Someone normally has an answer fairly quickly, sometimes quicker than finding the phone number to phone the hospital.

Read my OP again. It wasn’t after the op it was before. So yes I am seriously asking on a car forum (see above). Thanks for your valuable contribution.

I had surgery in August

It was made quite clear to me that I was isolating for three days for my own protection not that of the hospital staff who were vaxxed and wearing PPE

Reason stated is that Covid in itself isnt great but combined with an anesthetic and operation is a whole lot worse
It has an incubation period of up to 10 days so I could in theory have tested negative on Monday but come down with it a bit later in the week when my op happened

But hey, we're all free spirits so wotevs

I know my answer was a bit confrontational, but surely you know how Covid works.

Loads of people have it. If you're close to someone who has it, you might get it.

You're asking strangers on the internet if you're allowed to go out?

How about if someone said "you can have a million pounds in 10 days if you don't catch Covid?"

Would you ask people on here if your wife should go out, or if you're household should isolate?

Of course you wouldn't. You'd stay away from everyone for 10 days because you understand how Covid works,

Why did you ask people on a car forum if you should stay in?

So armed with that knowledge, and your understanding that you might catch Covid if you mix with people, I'm guessing you made an informed desicion yourself?

Or did you ask people on here if you should go out or stay in?
