Having been somewhat hesitant about the jabs (in other words haven't had any yet) I am finally coming around to the fact that I wont be able to go back to my old life of frequent travel unless I bite the bullet. I read about the single jab J&J product being authorised for use in UK back in May (and feel this would be the one I would go for as you get it over with in one hit) but not sure how you obtain it?

As I understand the NHS system you cannot select a jab manufacturer nor is it available privately - so not really sure how this works - anyone any advice please?

My nephew - a GP - said that they still do not have a date for the rolling out, although he did say that he was under the impression that it would be before November.

As an aside my daughter had this about 5 months ago (Europe) and had no side effects.

I think you'll be waiting a long while in the UK for anything privately. I suspect the demand will be so low when its readily and freely available (albeit no real choice of which one).

I'm in the US and chose the one shot J&J back in May. I felt a bit crap about 24 hrs later for about a day, and that was it. Aged 52 and pretty healthy. Over here in the US you have some degree of choice of which one you want. I got a small card stamped by the administering pharmacy as proof.

If you ring the places administrating the vaccine they will be able to tell you what jabs they are holding. Some also advertise as I've seen this on local Facebook pages.

(I've not had the jab myself but my wife was not able to have AZ so had this when looking for pfizer.)

Thanks Hoink. I'm getting the impression its hardly been rolled out yet here in England but may try calling a local centre as I don't do Farcebook.

Are you a 'hesitant' like me (I'm 56 by the way)?

I had the J&J back in June here in Germany - 52 years old, just normal fitness levels. Had a red-hot fever over night then felt generally exhausted for another 24hrs, then all sorted. Frau GenX had the same and had fewer symptoms.

EU Covid passport easily obtained after two weeks (even though I'm English/non-EU) and simply uploaded to the Corona Warn app.

I've travelled between European countries a fair bit in the last few weeks and the passport works fine, everyone seems fully aware that the J&J is a 1-shot, so no problems with access or (certainly in and out of the UK from Germany) border control.

You'll be fine. Short term pain for long term gain. Plus if I hadn't had the jab I wouldn't have been able to do some pretty fun things in the last month.

Thanks for that insight and info. Thats why I am intending to get it - ironically I have worked right through this thing for the last 18 months, interacted with loads of people as per normal, travel on inter-city trains and tube a couple of times a week, even travelled though a red list country back in the summer etc. But I am getting the jab as I want to travel next year to places in Asia that will not accept me without it.

This.

Me and my wife wanted Pfizer so we just looked on Facebook as the local hospitals/pharmacies were 'advertising' if they were AZ or Pfizer, so we just booked the place that had Pfizer.

As others have said, it's easy. In a pharmacy for 2 visits of 5 min and thats it job done. You can forget about it after that. Me and the wife felt very slightly groggy for a day after ours, but nothing more than that.

No problem.

I've not seen anywhere rolling it out round here (North Tyneside) but haven't really been looking tbh. It was mainly pfizer a couple of months ago with a few doing moderna and AZ. You could always try your local doctors to see if they have a list of all the vaccine centres nearby then give them a ring.

Yes, I'm hesitant. I had one eye on the Novavax but that's been pushed back into next year. I'm 42 and with a teacher wife plus 2 young children will no doubt come down with it sooner rather than later.

My plan was always to sit back and see what happens over winter. I will see what the world looks like early next year and make a decision then...
