I’ve barely been in a loud busy place since March 2020, but, in the last few weeks, I have found myself out more often meeting friends in the pub. I’m finding it noticeably more difficult to focus on the person with whom I’m conversing. It just seems like the background noise is twice as loud as it used to be.

Anyone else having this issue? I do hope I’m just out of practice in noisy, bustling places as I haven’t noticed anything else different about my hearing. I suppose any changes would be gradual. Maybe I’m just 2 years older and stter at hearing things m, which also would be perfectly normal.

You’ve had 18 months of the media and government barraging you with negative news and fear, telling you going outside is certain Covid death, assuring you that everyone could be a deadly super spreader etc

It’s no wonder you feel a little anxious. Trust me when I say most people will feel the same. You just need to get out there and get that feeling of normality back smile

Same hear (!!). Went to a busy restaurant last week, meal booked for 6.30 and all quiet. Got steadily noisier until about 7.45, and by 8.00 was really wanting to leave. No sweet or coffee, left the table and paid at the till.
Just had to get out. No loud music, just people talking, but got too much for me.

I’m not anxious, I’m loving being out and about in busy pubs, other than the hangovers and the fact it’s taking up an inordinate portion of my brain to work out what folk are saying wobble

I posted something similar in a thread about hearing the other day. I've always been used to working in the office, but could always tune background noise out.

I'm back in a half full office 2 days a week, and can't deal with the noise!

Weirdly, I've always struggled to hear people in pubs and clubs. Perhaps it's a focus thing, I don't think it's my ears that are the issue.

Oh I see that thread now! I’ll have a read through. Glad it’s not just us.
